One side thinner?

Can somebody please explain to me why one side of my head is thinner than the other? While my hair was wet, I used a fine toothed comb and combed my hair forward, and my head was totally black for the most part, except for a bit on the left side, which you could see through. What's this all about?

i'm not sure, i know my right side is being devoured by male pattern baldness while the left is fine. i'm sure in time your other side will catch up.

Or maybe that's the point of finasteride, maybe the left will finally catch up with the density of the right side? :p

But the most probable thing is that the left will go first in your case deaner and the right will follow - but it doesn´t really matter does it because you can´t have one decent side :)

So get set for a shave - in a couple of years.

What you describe is VERY normal.

All humans have a 'stronger' side to their hair than the other. Men will always have one temple that is receeded further than the other, and it is usually their right temple that is the worst side.

This is because hair does NOT grow from rear to front, it grows in a spiral pattern. And, follicles in male pattern baldness sufferers are programmed to miniaturize in a certain sequential pattern. So, for those whose hair grows in a clockwise spiral the right hand side thins the worst because the hairs there are affected for being temple hairs, and also hairs on the outermost ring of your spiral growth pattern. You know what, I can't describe it in words, give me a whiteboard and I could draw a little illustration that would peg it but believe me, it is normal for a man to have one temple thin faster than the other.

Agreed...There was a similar post a few months back and just about everyone said one side was thinner than the other.

I feel the same. My right side has those annoying curly hairs that will soon be devourded by my own immune system. My left side however has no curly hairs. I still don't understand why they turn curly. It's like the lone solider just holding his ground to the bitter end.

That's funny cause my hairline has just become super curly. :) I wonder why the hairs become curly, maybe its because the density is no longer there.....

Anyone???????

Thanks,

I find that I didn't have these curly hairs until I started Propecia. My hair has always been super straight, and now I'm getting curly hairs, most of which are short, new ones sprouting all in amongst the long hair. Not sure what this means, but whatever...

it may have to do with what side of your body / head you sleep on. i sleep on my left side, and my left forehead receeds more. all that pressure on the forehead could accelerate hair loss.
