I've only been on finasteride 1mg for about 2 weeks now. However, I was under the impression that within a few days the "itching" associated with male pattern baldness would stop. Most people seem to agree that when you have itching in those places it means your hair is still thinning rapidly. It seemed like my itching stopped after a few days, but suddenly after a week I got a relapse of it.
The itching is MOSTLY in the exact places where I have thinning. Right on the top of my head and at the two temples/hairline. I also had gotten the Lipogaine Big 3 Shampoo (keto 1%) and I was using that everyday, without realizing that it says to only use 2 to 3 times per week. I notice some dry skin on the back of my neck so I'm wondering if the keto shampoo may be exacerbating the itch because by drying out my scalp or something. I woke up in the middle of the night with a strong urge to scratch the top of my head. I think I'm just gonna stop using the keto shampoo for now and see if that does anything.
I guess I'm just wondering. If you are on finasteride, when did your itching stop (if it did)? It itching after 2 weeks of inhibited DHT production a sign that the medication is not gonna work for me?
I know the only way to really find out and wait a year. But it's one of those things ... I lost so much hair in the past year w/o being on finasteride and if I give finasteride another year and it's ineffective (while I could have been on dutasteride or something), then my hair could end up being a lot worse.
