Hi, I've been experiencing diffuse thinning on all over the top my head, mainly in the crown area (hairline is intact). I don't have any noticeable bald patches but my hair strands seem to be getting thinner & thinner. This has slowly been progressing for about 3 years.

I recently went on the big 3 for about 3 months. I initially had a lot of shedding at the 1 month-mark, losing about 200 hairs per day. I think things stabilized at the 3 month mark and I was barely losing hair except for a few long ones here and there.

I eventually went off Propecia because I was having difficulties getting an erection. I also stopped Rogaine for about 20 days, then resumed. About a week after quitting Propecia, my sex drive/erections went back to normal.

It's been about 2 months since I've been off Propecia, and I've noticed that I've been losing a lot of small thin hairs. Overall I feel like I'm losing a lot more than when I was on Propecia at the 3 month mark, although definitely less than before I started the big 3.

I guess my dilemma is whether I should resume taking Propecia. I want to keep my hair, but I'm scared of the sides. Is there anyway I can prevent further hair-loss without Propecia or should I see where just Rogaine + Nizoral takes me? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Im not sure what to tell you....you're kinda in a tough spot. I would say try propecia for a month and see if the sides go away. Try not to think about the fact you are on propecia either, pop it in and don't even think about it. Your problem maybe you are freaking yourself out. But if you want to keep your hair you need something to block the DHT. Propecia is your proven bet outside avodart. I'd say even try a small dosage of propecia, cut it in half to start or even take it every other day. Maybe let your body try to adjust to the pill. Other than that, you have avodart, but that has a good number of reported sides too. The only other possible dht blocker is saw palmetto. Saw P is a natural substance, that has been prescribed by doctors for men with prostate problems; although no proven scientific info has come about stating saw palmetto does prevent hair loss. But some people on this board claim success and most companies that create hairloss pills outside of propecia/avodart include saw palmetto. I would say go with at least 1200 mg of the stuff a day if you decide on saw P. But really, I would try propecia one more time and cut it in half and work your way up to 1mg by the end of the month. I started with every other day, after a month went to 1mg daily, and now take proscar 1.25mg daily with no problems and finally after the 6 month mark have drastically ceased hairloss. Finally, keep up with rogaine and definitely keep the nizoral 3x's a week. You need a clean healthy scalp for growth and regrowth.

take it easy.
