nw1 going to horseshoe already

for those who seen my pics there a nw1 diffuse but under natural light you see the top much thinner in a horseshoe pattern its really depressing me

been on finasteride for 8 months and nothing

do i have a good chance using dutasteride?

I find from reading these forums, when people start messing around with regimes is when people start shedding on losing lots of hair. Ride finasteride out for a year and a half, as it is usually very effective for diffuse pattern. After this time and still no results ease of finasteride and gradually introduce dutasteride.

How is dutasteride going for u??? Are u diffuse too? Did u try propecia before

Sounds the same as me, diffuse nw5, very thin up top these days.

finasteride will return amazing results for 2-4 years in most, you may even regrow ALL your hair (many many have) during that time. Ultimatley taking finasteride accelerates the advance of the slick baldness we are terrified of. If your genes say it should be 15 years, taking the magic pill will cut that to 5. Somebody else will know better than me but I've read in a few places now that diffuse thinners hair have shorter hair cycles than most, they are finite also, so if your hair is set to grow x times and finasteride is constantly pushing us along, we reach x times a hell of alot quicker!

Somebody please say theres long term hope

Curious as to why u don't go on dutasteride?

We would have good hair for a couple of years but it would make us go bald faster than finasteride does. Like I said before, our hair goes through growth cycles, they eventually stop cycling, taking the meds work but speeds up the death of our hair.

Unless somebody can point me to ANY long term success then as far as I read it, we can choose between good hair for 2-4 years and then slick baldness or many more diffused years before slick city. Not good.

dutasteride is fine in terms of no side-effects for me. Haven’t really noticed much as in results, I defenatly haven’t lost any hair. I'm not diffuse just normal pattern baldness at the temples, no crown loss as of yet. I didn't try finasteride and went straight onto dutasteride, I’m about 5 months in.

I don't really buy into the all 'go on propecia first see if it halts it' approach. I'd rather not lose the extra hair to find out.

I spoke to a Doctor about this exact issue.

She told me minoxidil is worth while, finasteride isnt because it lowers DHT causing your DHT receptors to multiply due to being surpressed - as a way to deal with the change and adapt to the medication.

That could explain it.

Really? Where on earth did you hear THAT?!

For your information, Merck's long-term (5-year) study clearly showed that the difference in haircounts between finasteride users and placebo users continued to INCREASE over the duration of those 5 years. While even longer studies (10 years or more) have not yet been done, I have no doubt that they would show the same results. I'd bet the farm on it.

I don't think your doctor knows what she's talking about. While it's apparently true that finasteride usage causes an upregulation in the number of androgen receptors, by no means is that upregulation capable of negating the beneficial effect of the sharp reduction in DHT. It may blunt its effect a bit, but it certainly can't do away with it entirely.

So I feel the exact OPPOSITE to the way she feels: finasteride is worthwhile, minoxidil (alone) isn't, because it has no effect on the fundamental balding process. All minoxidil does is give an extra "offset" of growth, as balding continues on its merry way.

Dr. Proctor has said many times on alt.baldspot that diffuse thinners frequently have a better response to treatments in general.

Yep, its easier to grow hair in areas where hair already grows, as I say Ive found some stunning diffuse results online, cant find anything beyond 4 years.

Diffusers lose it as rapidly as they gain it.

I would dearly love to be proved wrong.
