Just out of curiosity if someone fasted for say a month and got no required nutrients or vitamins would their hair miniaturize exactly like male pattern baldness or would the process happen differently? Would there be any visible difference in the structure or growth patterns of the hair between male pattern baldness and the nutrient deficient one?
If you severely lacked protein lets say would the hair grow back after you got it?

It can cause Telogen Effluvium I believe though I doubt it actually causes follicle miniaturisation so I expect diet related hair loss to recover.

You get nutrients during fasting from cannibalizing your adipose fat.

You get protein from cannibalizing lean mass. Typically, 1 pound of lean mass is lost from every ~15 pounds of fat mass.

There's no starvation during fasting as long as your internal reserves are high. Once you run out of reserves, typically around 4% body fat, your body switches from fasting mode to starvation mode.

Hair falling out can be an issue if you drink bad water. A lot of people report healthier hair during and after a long fast. I recall one testimonial from someone reporting inferior hair, but that person had drunk bad water, with a very low pH, which she credited for a lot of health problems.
