Notice something with bald men

I noticed that most bald men I see, from the naked eye, have a very tight looking scalp. It's almost like theres just a very very thin layer of skin. But when I see some people who shave their heads (although do not have baldness), they seem to have a thicker scalp. I dont have a microscope but from the naked eye it seems pretty obvious. Every notice this anyone?

Man you spend a lot of time looking at bald scalp! I think what you are seeing is an optical illusion.

Skin is partially translucent, thats why if you hold your hand in front of a bright light, the edges of your fingers/hand look highlighted. Thats light passing through the skin where there is no bone or muscle to stop it.

Likely if there are hair folicles under the skin, they are stopping more light as opposed to the bald scalp that lets more light pass through. So in effect the bald scalp looks thinner.
