Hi Everyone, I'm a noob and not quite sure where to post this. I've been looking online and not found any answers, I'm 38 and have always had very fine, straight hair. I seem to be thin or thinning more or less equally over the top of my head, with no noticeable receding. I'm not sure if it is male pattern baldness because, if anything I have more hair on my crown than I do at the front centre of my head.

In the right light there are no issues but directly under a light bulb much of the top of my scalp is visible through my hair. I'd say it's worse than it was a couple of years ago and I have noticed a lot of hairs on the pillow in the last year or so. I thought I was going bald about seven years ago, with more or les the same situation and consulted two trichologists who said they couldn't see male pattern baldness but recommended some treatments anyway. After further reading, I decided I had temporary, short term hair loss due to stress, made obvious by my already fine hair. I may be in the same situation again but I think it's worse this time and has been going on longer. I have issues with psoriasis and have actually lost hairs on both my outer calves, I intermittently get an inflamed scalp but that has been better in the last year or two.

My dad started thinning at the crown in his 40s and I think both grandfathers did, both died in their sixties but were not bald at the front. Any suggestions? Not sure what other information is useful?

I would see a dermatologist (or even better, hair transplant doctor, just for consultation, they will give you a prescription if you have male pattern baldness) and if they confirm you have it or not you could start finasteride and just take it once a day or two and probably never have to worry about your hair again
