Spin king's new battle

HE has claimed more scalps than any other Test cricketer but yesterday Shane Warne admitted his own was becoming dangerously thin.

The Aussie spin king became the latest high-profile sportsman to publicise his battle with baldness when he announced he had started a hair-replacement program.

"It's great," said Warne.

"My hair is growing back and my hair-loss has stopped." Warne is the latest recruit to Advanced Hair Studios, after advertising campaigns involving fellow former Australian Test spinner Greg "yeah, yeah" Matthews, Kiwi Martin Crowe and former English opener Graham Gooch.

AHS declined to say how much Warne had been paid to go public with his hair-loss program, which he began before leaving Australia three months ago for his new home in Southampton, England.

But irrespective of his fee, Warne stands to gain if the treatment program works – even if he does provide England with fertile sledging material in the upcoming Ashes series.

Warne's commercial appeal to potential sponsors and advertisers was almost as much due to his iconic bleached-blond hair as his ability to mow down batting line-ups.

Ever since he burst into the spotlight in 1991-92, Warne has kept his locks bleached and clipped.

AHS managing director Carl Howell said Warne's repeated bleaching sessions would have had no impact on his hair loss.

"That was not the issue. He had a genetic problem – hereditary hair loss," said Mr Howell.

"With laser treatment we have reversed the hair follicle miniaturisation process."

"This program involves several components – firstly, rubbing in a topical solution hair re-growth pharmaceutical, as well as `Serenoa' serum, ingesting `Serenoa' capsules, using `Serenoa' shampoo and undergoing laser therapy weekly."

The treatment would cost less celebrated customers $4000 to $5000.

That was not realy directed at you, but at them.

But you did just reproduce an advertisement (for what of a better phrase) you then followed it with a little review of their website and (nice touch) a link to the website.

Now if I was on the boards scamming this is probably the method I would use.


You may be happy with your Min/finasteride/nizoral but to a newcomer seeing that ad may be enough to send him off in the wrong direction never to return here.

Advanced Hair Studio IS A SCAM!

Pay attention newbies and others who are thinking of trusting these shills. I went to their studio and spoke to one of their people a couple of years ago.

He said to me that minoxidil only grows peach fuzz and that their lazers did most of the work. That is absolutely laughable to someone who is not ignorant of the facts. Minoxidil is FDA approved to regrow "terminal" hair. Their Lasers are not!

Their serenoa(scientific name for Saw Palmetto) treatment isnt even the recommended dose. The standard dose for treatment is 85-95% fatty acids and sterols. Theirs is a crappy little 15%!!!! :evil: Cant comment on the serum as I never saw it or checked it out. But if their Saw Palmetto capsules are anything to go by it would be worthless.

Basically you are paying $4000-$5000 for their a 6-12 month supply of minoxidil, 3 bottles of Saw Palmetto(15% fatty acids! should be 85%!), some shampoo and serum that are all unproven at best, save the minoxidil.

They are getting results on the back of a FDA approved treatment(minoxidil) and attributing it to their "program" of worthless crap.


I finished off by asking the guy, can I just have the laser treatment alone, seeing as that is the main and most beneficial part of the program. He replied, you can, but I wouldnt advise it, because the "studies" only were done with minoxidil included(yeah, I wonder why :roll: ).

DO NOT TRUST THESE SCAMMERS!

Just found the following article on http://www.theage.com.au/. I also read on another site that Warne is taking a tablet and using a topical solution. I guess these are Propecia and Rogaine? Do Advanced Hair Studios give people Propecia?

Doubts over Warne's hair-raising claims

Doctors and dermatologists have voiced concern over laser hair treatment for baldness after it was endorsed by Test bowler Shane Warne.

Melbourne doctor Dr Richard Shiell, who has been performing hair transplants for 37 years, said even though laser treatment cost about $5000 there was still no conclusive evidence that it stimulated hair growth.

"It doesn't appear to be based on a firm scientific basis," Dr Shiell said. "They are using it in conjunction with known medications, so 80 per cent of people are getting improvement on the medication."

Warne follows fellow Australian cricketer Greg Matthews and England's Graham Gooch in backing Advanced Hair Studio's treatments.

Health Services Commissioner Beth Wilson said celebrity endorsement was a powerful marketing tool. "Where there is aggressive advertising of cosmetic procedures, it tends to prey on people's vulnerability," Ms Wilson said.

The Australasian College of Dermatologists said the procedure had not been thoroughly trialled. Spokeswoman Dr Mei Tam said: "Laser treatment to promote hair regrowth has not had anything written up about it medically, so we are not well aware about whether laser works."

But Advanced Hair chief executive Mike Beuermann said internal research showed a 72 per cent success rate within four months.

Advanced is a franchise operation. Their hairdressers actually stick wigs onto the scalp with medical superglue, which burns the skin. Several years ago they typically charged £1000 for an off-the-shelf £100 wig, claiming it was tailor made (from a sellotape mould!)

Now they have jumped onto the bandwagon of minoxidil, laser, saw palmetto and anything else which comes along, but at vastly inflated prices. This is not in the interests of the public. I do hope they don't put on the topicals first and then zap the scalp with lasers??

When customers don't get the results advertised by their celebrities, at least they can have a wig superglued
onto their heads, which will need servicing for life at the studio of their choice. This will heat up their scalps marvellously. Causing itches which cannot be scratched.

This is a problem which cannot be ignored. At least we can share scam info here.
I expect that Advanced and other abusers of baldness sufferers look in on this site, so I cannot share precise details of my own personal discovery, which I mentioned in Vellus to Terminal and replies to other members. They would just take my idea and start selling it for a fortune!

Somehow I need to get a trusted team together, who will see my results for themselves. So far I have found no evidence of another man who has grown back so much of his hair after 20 years full male pattern baldness.
