newbee proscar vs. generic

I'm a newbee just beginning to map out a regimen and i was wondering if any of you could tell me if there were any significant differences in the effectiveness/quality of proscar as compared to its generic equivalent. Additionally, where online would be the best place to purchase both for someone residing in the states like myself. Many thanks for all and any help.
