I am 21 years old and I guess been losing it the last 2-3 years. I didn't realize it for the longest time until about last year. I was on accutane for the treatment of acne when I started to realize that I couldn't grow my hair super long anymore. I thought this was common and it was just my hairline receding. I talked to the derm who prescribed me the drug and all he did was asked if I have any male pattern baldness in my family, which I don't. He assured me that my hair would grow back a year after I'm off the drug. It has now been 14 months since I've been off the drug and my hair is pretty pathetic. I didn't start treatment because I was under the undue influence by the derm. I went to Bosley to see what could be done and the doctor was a complete jerk. They also made me wait an hour pass my appointment (time is money!). So where i'm at now is i'll be finishing up my 3 month supply of Propecia in a few days, I've been on Rogaine foam for a month, and have been using Nizoral shampoo three times a week. I've been shedding like crazy yet still remain optimistic. My main goal is to regrow some hair and gain some density.

Is there anything in addition to my current regimen that I can do? Revivogen? Tricomen?
What do I use as shampoo on the days that I don't use Nizoral?
And most importantly....
When will I start to see some results? Thank you in advance to the HairLossTalk.com community and I hope to hear some responses from any of you. Thank you.

Looks like heavy diffuse thinning to me. Did you try some concealer in order to make your hair look thicker? You look like a prime candidate. Apart from that I advise you to use a mild baby shampoo on the nizoral off days.

You have started your treatment, you need patience, regrowing hair takes a long time. If you are really lucky you might see the first signs of regrowth within the next weeks, but don´t count it. Everybody reacts different when treating hairloss.

First of all, you are on the right track. Propecia will most likely stop or slow any further loss, while rogaine foam will help thicken up the "empty" spots. Nizoral will be an overall help.

Be religious with your treatment try not to lose any doses or applications and there is a great chance you will be posting on success stories in some months.

You are lucky to catch it up early. I will disagree with taugenichts saying it is heavy diffuse thinning, i have seen much worse. You are thinning, but it is nothing that the big3 cant handle.

Taugenichts- No I usually style my hair a slick back style using Garnier Fructis Surf Hair. I will definitely take your advice on the baby shampoo and will be picking it up tomorrow.

sphlanx2006: Thanks for the advice. I'd probably miss 4-5 applications (coming home to wasted) of the foam since I've started so I hope it's not significant enough to make a difference. I wish I had caught it earlier but it is what it is and we're all doing what it is we need to do. I'm glad there is this forum, probably most of all I know about hair is from this site and from users such as yourself.

Nguy,

If you don't mind me asking, are you Asian?

I ask because your hair texture and situation reminds me of another poster we had awhile back whose name escapes me, and he was an Asian man.

I will say that you have moderate diffuse thinning but it is definitely not severe at all. If you can still cover it up by combing your hair forward as it looks like you can, then it's not even close to severe. You should respond nicely to the foam and the propecia should hold your hair in place

good luck and keep in touch

Why are you being such a racist? Just because he has darker skin and black hair doesn't mean he is asian. I know plenty of blonde hair and blue eyed asians.

Just kidding

JayMan: Yes I'm Asian. I would comb my hair forward but it makes me look very emo. On the subject of the last asian guy, do you know how he responded to treatment?

WoW: At one point in life I did have blonde hair and wored color contacts :hairy:

If you want a little extra oopmh, you could always add in Tricomin and Revita when that comes out here within the next week or two.

What is oopmh? Is that an acronym for something?

And what do you mean by Tricomin and Revita coming out here? Where? And I thought tricomin was another rogaine?

Tricomin contains copper peptides. Very different from minoxidil, but they are both growth stimulants. Revita is basically pumped up Nizoral shampoo. it contains ketoconazole like nizoral does, but also contains other stuff like apple polyphenols and copper peptides. Who knows if these things will be effective in a shampoo form rather than as a leave on topical? I don't know.

I want to start taking MSM although I'm not too sure what it's suppose to do. How much should I take (dosage.etc)? I weigh about 130.

Msm, is for joints and does have a few other slight health benifits.
I've only heard of guys taking it after a hair transplant when they had their heads shaved down. Apparently it helps hair grow (slightly) quicker thus enabling them to return to work etc faster. take 1000 -3000mg per day.
Do you want to make more frequent trips to the barbers then?

I've been taking MSM (Maxi-Hair) and my hair and nails have been growing much faster than normal. I'll take pics tonite of my progress with the big3, I'm doing pretty good.

re:

The most important thing is to STICK WITH YOUR TREATMENTS for a year before concluding anything. Take photos each month. I have the same general loss as you and it took at least a year before my hair stabilized. You are young so just stick with the Big 3 for a few years and add in other products later.
As for hair style, eventually your hairloss will continue to progress no matter how many drugs you take, so change the hairstyle now before you are forced to change it later. This will make the transition easier. Your current look only makes your male pattern baldness look worse then it actually is and there is nothing emo about laying your hair flat as IMO your current hairstyle is more emo then the flat look so i am confused. I know it sucks but you have to accept your hairloss and make some changes. It is well known on this board that the best look for those with male pattern baldness is either the whiffle (shaved) or the Ceasar look....period!
I use Vive for men thickening shampoo and it works well for me.
Good luck.
