Hi guys,

I've been considering using Minoxidil and I was after some advice, hoping you could help.

I'm in my late 20's and after a recent haircut I noticed that parts of the front hairline have started receeding.

What used to be a straight hairline now has a pretty bad "M" shape to it.

I was thinking of trying Minoxidil on those two points at the front, but I'm really worried that it will cause hair loss all over my head.

So:
(1) does Minoxidil only cause shedding where it is applied (which is currently bare anyway) or does it cause shedding everywhere?

(2) what would you guys suggest as the best solution, if not Minoxidil?

Thanks for your help.

People will tell you use Finasteride etc... which is great for maintaining and growing a small bit of new hair (mainly in the vertex)

However if you want serious regrowth on the hairline, you definitely need to start on 5% Minoxidil.

I've been using Regaine 5% for 9weeks & already my hairline is looking better than when I began treatment! I was a NW2.75 when I began and now it seems I'm fast approaching a NW2 again! Bare in mind I've achieved these results already, without the help of any DHT Inhibitors/Androgen blockers (which generally cause worse sides than minoxidil)

Don't listen to all those people on here who quit minoxidil after 4weeks because they were scared of a bit of shedding. You have to accept that you're hairline will look like sh*t for the first5weeks or so, but after that it will grow back thicker and stronger and the new hairs on your temples will slowly grow into your existing hairline.

Also if you apply it to your hairline only, you will NOT get shedding anywhere else on your scalp.

Oh yeah and in addition, use Nizoral shampoo twice a week to soothe DHT inflammation and rid your scalp of all the dandruff and crusty, dried Minoxidil.

Finasteride is the most successful treatment on the market of MAINTAINING hair, therefore given that your main objective is hair-regrowth I think you should start on Minoxidil see how it goes for 6months and add finasteride later once you've experienced some gains.

I recommend this because Minoxidil is a safer option than Finasteride (which can in a minority of people mess with hormones and cause nasty sides) and in addition you are still on your 20s, so minoxidil is much more likely to work for you than it someone in their late 30s.

I hope this sheds a bit of light on things.
