New hairloss member, question regarding proscar

Hello everyone
I am currently 22 years old and started to experience hair loss on the crown of the head. I tried minoxidil but saw no improvement, and instead developed a rash in areas the solution was applied.

With that being said I would like to use proscar and chop it up into fifths or fourths, however; how does one obtain a prescription to this? Are you simply able to waltz into your doctors office, talk about hair loss, and get a prescription?

Thanks

How long did you use minoxidil for?

Secondly I just went to my physician and had them prescribe me Proscar... Talk to yours. You just need to be honest and forthcoming about your concerns.

Ok thanks, I hope my family physician will be willing to work with me on this issue if I honestly explain the circumstances. I used minoxidil for about a month or so, the rash was very unpleasant so I stopped usage.

I assume that proscar sliced into approximate 1mg pieces should have roughly the same effectiveness as propecia, is this correct? Have any of you had success with proscar?

yes approx 1.25 mg of finasteride is just as effective as propecia

your family doctor may know nothing about proscar/propecia
and yet he or she may know alot about it

even if you dont get an prescription you can acquire these drugs without one via the internet

1 month on minoxidil is nothing
but it sounds like you got some rash so it's better you stopped using it

possibly consider using nizoral 3 times a week
i found it to very effective with inflammation caused by DHT

I am not opposed to getting proscar through an online pharmacy, however; I am concerned about unknowingly being supplied fraudulent pills. For someone located in the USA could you recommend a supplier for an online prescription?

i think DR. Lee will give you an proscription for finasteride

but it's more like he gives you an $20 consultation via the internet
and then allows you to order finasteride exclusively from his site
his finasteride is rather expensive IMO

your best bet is to take your chances and hope you family doctor knows finasteride is the main ingredient in Proscar and Propecia. and that only the milligrams are different NOT ALL DR.'S KNOW THIS :dunno:

the reason being splitting Proscar into 4ths is the cheapest method of using finasteride

Just to update everyone

My Dr. prescribed me Avodart and finasteride 1mg (propecia) today. There must have been a misunderstanding with the finasteride because I wanted the 5mg to break it into 1mg peices, since thats cheaper.

I was thinking to go ahead and go with avodart since its about 8$ a pill and you only need it twice a week. Or should I go back to his office and ask him to redo the finasteride to 5mg so I can get it cheaper. Or will the cost savings be negligible?

avodart is hardcore stuff!!!

i would just use finasteride for now and add avodart (dutasteride) later if necessary

apparently your Doctor kinda gave you the short stick by proscribing you Propecia
instead of Proscar

because proscar has a generic form and it 5mg so you can split them

yes the cost saving are pretty large! especially in the long run
go back and tell your Doctor your willing to split proscar or generic proscar (5mg) finasteride and enjoy the savings

i would also question him because avodart is extreme stuff
granted it works
but some people get gnarly sides from it
it also stays viable in the body for quite some time

these are just my opinions I am no doctor

I'm not aware that Avodart is currently indicated for hairloss. Some people use it for that, but. You might not want to start out on it. Try finasteride first.

If your doctor has no problems prescribing you Propecia AND Avodart (which blocks both type 1 and 2 AR5 enzymes better than Propecia), then he should have no problem prescribing you Proscar for you to split into 5ths.
