Hello,
I have been reading the forum without being registered for quite some time and some of the stuff I read here are super scary and freaky which only make you stress out more and freak out, at least that is the case with me. I am a 27 yo male that noticed crazy shedding in September of last year. My father has a beautiful full head of hair, and so does my mother, brother, sister, and grandma. Grandfathers had some hairloss.
Since I noticed this shedding of hair each time I applied gel or some other product, I started to freak out and researching what it could be. I was able to comb out, wash and run my hands through my hair to notice around a 100 hairs a day. Sometimes more and sometimes less. I freaked out and went to my dermatologist and told him about this issue and he told me about propecia and I signed up with finnastride for the long run. I have been taking it for over 6 months religiously (1mg) and the shedding has not stopped. The only thing I noticed was the libido reduction, watery semen and maybe occasionally not being able to get it up. A week and a half ago I was I in Istanbul Turkey on a business trip and I seriously broke down in my hotel room. Hair keeps falling out, everyone is saying that they are going sterile from propecia and it seems like I am affected - its just a big downer. I started thinking that I was never like this - never historical to that point, never did i tear up so easily for a movie, never did i have really problems getting up in the morning or being tired - until I started Propecia (finasteride). I decided to quit it while in Istanbul. It has been now over a week that I have quit. I feel energetic and seems like my semen, erections and libido are getting better by the day. I am also less tired and less emotional it seems even as I write here.
My hair continues to shed when I shower and when I run my hand through my hair I can pretty much expect to have between 1 - 4 hair between my fingers. Please note that I am not pulling on my but rather, I bring my fingers closer together and hair is simply between them when I remove my hand. This does not seem to be on the sides but primarily on top of my head (front and back). I still have a full head of hair but I think it is thinner and the fact that hair is on my hands so easily freaks me out. I don't know what to do.
I think going to my dermatologist is pointless so I have scheduled an appointment with a new dermatologist who is an expert in hair loss - the wait time is another 3.5 months ( October 2013).
I dont know why this happened so suddenly. I have never noticed this before. My right temple seems to be also more thin than my left its weird.
The only thing that I can think of ( if this is Telogen Effluvium and not Androgenetic Alopecia), is that I was in a hospital in Miami Florida ( im from Ohio ), when I was at a bachelor party. I thought I was having a heart attack or something and my friends were away, I was crying, and my family was nowhere to be found. Pretty freaky stuff.This was at the beginning of August 2013, about 2 months before I stated taking Propecia for the next 6.5 months. But it has been months now since that event so I don't know if this was caused by that or is there another underlying condition.
I had some blood work done and they said all is well. I had a test for thyroid done and they said it looks good. I am going to have the run those tests again since it has been a few months to see if something is happening.
If you have read so far, I want to thank you for giving me the time of day - really. I have a few questions.
1. Why could this be happening ? This is not a typical male pattern baldness from what I read correct ?
2. Do you know of any specialist in Ohio that I can contact ?
- what tests should I run to rule everything out.
3. I stopped propecia, how long before I become normal again ? ( Been off of it for a week )
4. I dont want to use Propecia due to emotional problems and being tired. Do you have other suggestions ?
- I dont want to use Rogaine yet as my scalp is not yet visible and I dont want to become depended on it ( i read horror stories for that as well )
5. I am currently on following ( ordered it while in Istanbul ) - what do you think ?
