My cousin (age 52) told me he was going on finasteride because a guy he works with has similar hair pattern N5-6 and he began to grow back hair on the back of his head after being on the med for about a year. I told him I didn't think it was possible. I thought such total hairloss indicated dead, nonrestorable follicles. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Not that I know of. That doesn't even make sense. Finasteride only decreases DHT levels, not increase blood flow to the scalp or other stuff that minoxidil does. So I'm kinda skeptical about it.

Did the use Minoxidil as well? Also, we do not know the extent of the growth..Many people get those little baby hair come in to only find that they never mature into cosmetically significant hair..Is the guys result noticeable to others?

I have miniaturized hair like that on my frontal scalp. They're like body hair and don't grow above a certain length. They're useless, basically.

Everyone responds differently. He would probably get some hair back but nothing along the lines of native density
