New Growth - How do you know?

I swept my whats left of a hairline back this morning and there does appear to be quite a number of short hairs at half to one inch, many of them seem finer than the normal hairs. I've not seen this many short hairs previously. My hair is short at the moment max 2 inches on the top and one inch back and sides. My previously long hair long gone due to lots of receding and thinning over the last 6-8 months and had to get short cut so it didn't look like some sort of combover style :cry:

Most of the hair that I seem to lose now also seems to be the short fine hairs.

The question is this regrowth starting to happen or is it terminal hairs being replaced with thinning ones ready to disappear. Is there any way to tell and have those of you experiencing regrowth had this ?

I'm still losing ground at the moment after 7 months on finasteride and last 3 weeks on dutasteride.

I really hope that this is regrowth, hair is getting much thinner on top over the last few weeks.

Yeah I have the same question; it's hard to tell because hair going away looks the same as hair coming back, as far as I understand: when hair goes away it starts thick then grows thin until it's gone, and then when hair comes back it starts thin and grows thicker. I try to take photographs and compare, but it's still hard to tell. My dermatologist says it's growth, but I have trouble believing him because I don't yet have photographic proof of improvement.
