Basically these folks intend to make a topical of about four percent coal tar, salycic acid, castor oil, alchohol....................and somehow stop baldness.

I remember reading on Proctor's site that most of what actually gets patented probably works to some degree. I wonder how effective this is.
It does remind me of the placebo effects of some trials where T-gel was used and hair counts were mysteriously higher.

Interesting read though. Some of you might enjoy it. They explain why they thing something in coal tar is somewhat anti-androgenic.

Sounds OK. You have shmpoos with tar already, so you can use them for your KETA off days....

Harm,
This is interesting on a level. I dont know if the stuff will work, but cant fathom why the authors would bother attempting to patent it if they thought it didnt. Anyway, on the patent application (God they are long) there is info about the composition of the proposed "product" that I'll cut and paste.:::::::

Formula Composition

A preferred embodiment for the present invention is a composition with the following component percentages:

______________________________________
Component Parts of solution
%
______________________________________
Liquor carbonis detergens (coal tar)
8 4.4
Salicylic acid 2 1.1
Spirits of Camphor 30 16.7
Castor Oil (or similar oil)
2 1.1
Isopropyl alcohol 138 76.7
Perfume (Range)
*Adjuvents
total 180 100.0
______________________________________
*such as, Minoxidil, RetinA, CPA (Cyproterone acetate), growth stimulatin
factors (supernatants), sulfates, pyrimidines, hexosaccharic acid, salts
and esters thereof, pyroglutamic acid and esters thereof, and
antiandrogens, which can be factored in as desired

4.4 percent coal tar is alot of coal tar. I knew that coal tar 2.5% is on the market (at least at Walgreens). It smells like oil too........I popped open a bottle and sniffed it in the shampoo ailse last night when I was picking up some Nizoral (Im about out).

whats interesting about this is that coal tar is the pre eminent treatment for psoriasis which is an autoimmune disease of the skin. and now its being used to treat hair loss, which is possibly an autoimmune disease of the skin.

But they are using it to lower DHT, and in psoriasis Coal tar slows the accelerated growth of skin cells that causes lesions to appear.
