Ok so heres the thing... Im 19, I have male pattern baldness in my mothers side of the family. They all lose the hair on the top of their heads but still have very good coverage on the sides and back.

Ive been losing my hair since my senior year of highschool, so about a year and a half. I just recently got on minoxidil 5% and MSM. Im thinking about getting on propecia.

Also if anyone knows could you tell me if I would be a good hair transplant candidate? I know one of the main difficulties with hair transplant is that you have to keep getting them done. But if you get it done and then get on Propecia wouldnt everything be ok? And if not like I said before I figure to have a fair amount of donor hair available if needed.

heres a picture of what my hair loss looks like. Ive drawn on it a little, I have it labeled as first and 2nd option. Naturally Id love to have coverage where I have first option and would be pleased with the 2nd option. Is either of those attainable in like 4-5 months?

Any advice on what I should do?

Yes, treatments first, then maybe a hair transplant, which is probably unnecessary for you...

By the way, your hair is not that bad. If you were to get a transplant, you need to switch the first opt and the second opt around... you go down furter as you go...

well a hair transplant being probably unnecessary is good to hear. Didnt want to have to spend that kind of money right out of college that could go toward a house or something.

Anyway I know with propecia it takes a good while for it to stop the hairloss, but what about with minoxidil. Like how long should I have to expect to wait until I see some hairgrowth in the place I labeled 2nd option.

Im really wanting to nail this hairloss thing early, its my only insecurity. And even worse its the only thing that people can find wrong with me to mess with me about. Im tired of wearing hats and toboggins around people to hide the one thing I dont want people to know about me. So naturally putting those two together I would love to get something done about it. Its still winter and pretty cold, I was hoping I could do the minoxidil thing and wear a toboggin the rest of the winter and into early spring and then hopefully have some good regrowth before this summer when my insecurity would kick in harder.

Thanks for replies.

For me, it took about 4 months to see some modest regrowth and maintenance from minoxidil. I use the 5%, and I will continue to use it... It really works.
