Hi,
I need some advice surrounding my hair. Essentially, I have inherited my fathers hairline (seen in pictures) and have had that ‘M’ shape since I was quite young - perhaps starting secondary school. So it’s been there for a while like it is. My dad still has his hair (although very short buzz cut) but he’s near 60.
It’s just recently i’ve noticed some more shedding (perhaps it’s normal levels of shedding) but now because it’s come to my attention, then i’m noticing it more. It’s not major, however, if I rearrange my fringe perhaps i’ll notice a strand of hair between my fingers. I’ve looked up hair cycles, so it could just be that.
I’m 19, nearly 20, so I don’t want this to effect me as much as it does - it will play on my mind quite a lot which isn’t healthy.

Would like to know some of people’s opinions on some things I should think about. I’ve seen a lot of people mention finasteride - however, the side effects of it seems to be so major that it’s not worth it.

Get on topical finasteride asap 0.25mg daily. Maybe wait a year or two, speak to a doctor first.

Given where you are at this point, you can’t afford to lose any more hair. There is no doubt that this is male pattern baldness. Get to a doctor, confirm the diagnosis, consider your options,

Do some research now and decide what keeping your hair is worth. You’re going to need finasteride or dutasteride if you are trying to keep what you have left. There is no way to know how long it may take or the speed at which it will progress but it won’t take much to make the front an island at which point it’s going to look bad no matter what you do.

These medications are lifetime and bring with them the risk of horrific side effects. The chance is low, but you still need to ask yourself if you’re comfortable with any chance of contracting them.
