Hey everyone,

My name is Cory. Just joined the forum.

I was hoping to get some of your guys' advice on what you think an effective treatment regimen would be for the amount of balding I've experience. (refer to the pictures included below.)

You can't see it in the pictures, but i have very, very, fine hairs within the thicker hairs that I can feel which is why I am still hopeful that they may be able to be thickened with the right treatment.

A little background.. This is definitely hereditary. Both of my uncles as well as my cousin on my mothers side are completely bald (the way I'm balding) and just have a little hair on the side of their head. I'm pretty much destined for this as well if I don't do something about it.

I tend to base my product purchase decision on reviews and testimonials as I do not want to waste time or money on something that isn't going to work. I've visited both Bosley and Hair Club For Men and they are both way out of my price range and they promote mostly surgical treatments and didn't actually do a medical examination. They basically said.. "Yep! You have male pattern baldness. You can use topical treatments OR we can go the surgical route (more lucrative for them..)"

I've been thinking about seeing a doctor who specializes in hair loss like a dermatologist or trichologist (if I can find one in Nebraska), but wanted to maybe ask you guys first to see if anyone with a similar balding pattern has seen some success with over the counter treatment.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. I need to do something soon or I will have no hair follicles left to revive! :(

There really isn't much you can do now besides a hair piece.

Early intervention is critical when you're trying to treat hair loss.

Buddy, there's two sides to this coin. On one hand you probably don't need to go on the much maligned, by fear mongerers, finasteride. However, on the other hand you won't need it because judging by your photos alone, you're pretty far gone already. You've lost a lot of hair completely, and have diffuse thinning in the areas that are covered with hair. If hair transplantation is out of your price range right now, a hair system is the only alternative to just bicking your head clean ala Walter White. Even if money wasn't an issue with transplant surgery, you would need a lot of donor hair to cover your scalp because it looks like you're almost a full Norwood 5a. A skilled surgeon may be able to cover a big chunk of it, but you may have to be okay with a NW3 look like Christopher Nolan or Will Arnett. Then again I've seen very determined men use beard hair from their neck as donor hair just to get more coverage from a transplant, so anything is possible I suppose, but as of right now your options look somewhat limited.

If you're willing to risk dealing with the side effects, get on minoxidil + finasteride, and see if any moderate regrowth happens, I would love to tell you have nothing to lose, but I have no idea how your body will react to finasteride for example, so weigh in the risks/benefits.
