Need regrowth on hairline. 12.5% instead of 5% a wise move?

I need to try and get some regrowth on my hairline if possible. I know its next to impossible but I need to give it a go.

I'm thinking of trying xandrox 12.5. I've already tried minoxidil 5% for a few months and only got baby hairs, nothing terminal.

Would it be wise to use such a high concentration minoxidil solution at my age? Anyone had any results with it?

I'm also on 1.25 proscar and fluridil (hairline only).

Regards.

Try to remember that treating hair loss is a 20+ year process. Your focus on thickening up your hairline is understandable, but you are dumping all your treatments in at once. What will you do in 10 years if the whole top is thinning like mad and you've already been on Finasteride, Fluridil, and Minoxidil for 10 yrs? Keep that in mind.

Try to view this with a long term vantagepoint. You have not posted any photos, so I can't give my own personal opinion, but if you have a fairly full head of hair with some thinning up front that only you can really see, I would count my blessings and stick with the finasteride.

This is a tough call and very difficult to give you advice over the internet without seeing your hair. I guess my point is, don't lose site of the forest for the trees. Don't focus too heavily on winning a battle if you're going to exhaust your resources for winning the war.

12% minoxidil for some guys is too potent, and for others not. 5% minoxidil seems to be all anyone ever needs for attaining the maximum possible results they can get. If you've been on 5% for a year or more, you're likely at your peak.

I know this post wasn't too helpful but I needed to express my opinion on this tendency I see in a lot of guys.

Sorry I thought I mentioned, I'm 26.

My hairs a mess. I started finasteride for about 4 months and stupidly stopped for 2 weeks before realized I'd made a big mistake and got back on it again. Anyway about 3 months into my second go i started to shed bad all over my head and it stopped when I lowered my dose and slowly built it up again.

I figured I had a T.E. episode, I'm still not sure what happend. My hair is long so I've been able to get away with it but if it was short I don't know what would have happended as it would have looked a mess.

That was about 3-4 months ago. I live in the U.K. and went to see a specialist who was useless. I know I'm on my own regarding hairloss and the web is the only resourse for me.

My hairline has been bashed as well, and thats why I thought of xandrox 12.5. I'm tempted just to get on normal minoxidil again and apply it on top of my head but I'm worried i'll have an inital shed. You can see my scalp already as it is.

Not sure what to do. I hear you regarding the forest for the trees but I'd rather have some gains now while I'm young. Don't really mind going bald in ten years, but not now.

You could well benefit from a stronger % minoxidil since response to minoxidil is generally dose dependant.

You could try Xandrox or this site does an excellent 15% minoxidil with azelaic acid

15% minoxidil

HairLossTalk.com: Doctor Proctor wrote, and I've read other doctors saying the same, that using multiple treatments inhibits minoxidil tolerance. Same for many other treatments that can, if used alone, cause tolerance (i.e., what I've read from other doctors' posts).

HairlossTalk- that was well stated! I was on 5% minoxidil for about 10 years until I started to see it loose effect with a thinning hairline & crown area (I’m 33 now). After adding Dr. Lee’s 15% minoxidil in the morning along with ~1/6 fincar I had some really good results.

Minox_Baby- my advice (for what it’s worth) would be to strictly keep up with the 5% minoxidil & proscar treatments. Finish off what's left of the fluridil, (so you don’t waste your money) then forget about fluridil for a year or two. The trick is to stay with the treatment! No matter how bad a shed you’re having!

Global- I’ve never seen http://www.genhair.com before, do you trust them? Has anyone else use them? They even have a FLUTAMIDE 2% lotion that I’m temped to try.

Yes they have been reliable so far, they have a lot of similar products to Dr. Lee but about half the price, their 15% minoxidil with azelaic acid for example is the same formulation as Xandrox 15.

They also have some interesting combos with green tea, finasteride etc.

I might give the finasteride topical a go later on if i think I need it.

I just added the laser comb to my treatment 1 week ago and I can certainly feel the blood flow stimulation in my scalp after using it. Perhaps consider adding it instead of bumping minoxidil.. it's expensive, and I still dont know if it will grow hair yet, but I do feel like it actually does something to my skin so it's got potential.

global, does their minoxidil 5% dry as fast as Dr. Lee's product 500?
