I am a norwood 1 with very minor thinning(frontal) and I'm not sure what to do here. I have been saving for the past year just incase I need to get a future transplant. I have about $15,500 and I have another month to save up. I have been on Proscar for 3 months and I just want to maintain what I have and I'm not sure if this is going to work on my hairline. What I need help with though is I don't know if I should get on dutasteride once my whole proscar prescription is up, or if I should stay on Proscar and keep saving up for a future transplant? Will dutasteride pretty much ensure me that I wont have to get a transplant down the road?

Don't spend the money on a transplant. Save it. Use it on something better.

Stick with Proscar for AT LEAST 1 year until you decide you want to switch to dutasteride. You probably won't even be considering a transplant once you get 1-2 years of Proscar growth.

If you can, put some pictures up.

And if you are still considering a hair transplant, look up Dr. Armani on http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums

Personally, I would stay on proscar for a year or more to make sure you won't lose any more hair. Once you get a hair transplant, the hair is generally permanent, so if your hair doesn't respond positive to the proscar or dutasteride and you continue to lose hair, you'll have a very odd hairline.

Propecia

I was on propecia back for 3 months in 2003...don't see any changes.

Planning to try Rogaine foam 5% now.

you'd be very unlikely to see any changes in just 3 months. Try 6 -12 months minimum to judge its effectiveness.

And what do you mean by didn't see any changes? maintenance should be regarded as a success. Regrowth is a bonus.
