Hello,
i need advise about minoxidil.
so i will start by Sharing my story first:
i started losing hair about 4 years ago. it stressed me a lot but i denied the fact that it could be androgenic,
so i started using some oils and other natural things without success.
but about 2.5 years ago the shedding increased so i decided to start using minoxidil (2% i think i don't remember exactly) and started using nizoral 2% 3 weeks by then, i used minoxidil only 6 weeks and nizoral for 2 months, i stopped minoxidil because i was thinking it was dermatitis that caused hair loss, my hair loss completely stopped about 2 weeks after stopping nizoral, but returned progressively after about 1 month.
i returned on nizoral for a few weeks but stopped because i expected immediate results (i diden't have any information on hair loss at this time)
so after reading about hair loss on the internet i decided to use minoxidil 5% after accepting that it is certainly androgenic, because i concluded that it was my first use of minoxidil that stopped my hair loss the first time, after starting minoxidil 5% a had good results with good regrowth, but my body hair increased as well, after 6 months of use i noticed that my body hair started shedding , and a few weeks after my hair started and increased shedding progressively ( not very aggressive shedding, maybe a little bit more than when i was not taking any treatment ) and i lost the minoxidil regrowth that was directly visible (in the temples), i continued using minoxidil and i experienced the same situation ( of having regrowth but start losing them a few months later ) several times,(regrowth and stopped hair loss always accompanied with thinker body hair ) but a few months ago i noticed that my hair has changed texture and is completely irregular and very thick ( i incriminate minoxidil because i am sure that i had non of this irregular hairs before minoxidil ) so i decided to switch to finasteride and nizoral combined
my question is :
do i have to expect big shedding if i stop minoxidil ?
my opinion is that it could be yes or no ( no because i already experienced shedding that was not that terrible after becoming a non responder ( or minoxidil not absorbed ) for several times ( started losing hair and body hair ))
ps: i don't think i experienced an initial shedding with minoxidil
thanks and sorry for my bad English :$, i am Algerian

hey matey...

do not - i repeat - do not - quit minoxidil, or even go for lower doses..
its a ****ing catholic wedding mate...
once you stop (from experience) you would get a VERY VERY SERIOUS shed ...
for me - even forgetting to use for a day or two - would give me a little shed next couple of days later, and i could see my hair looks worse (but maybe its just me)..

im using this **** for about 5 years now..
a lot of money has been thrown away..
if only i started on finasteride/dutasteride at first instead...

my suggestion - start finasteride or dutasteride,
wait 6-12 months,
if you get good results and you are happy, try - SLOWLY and GRADUALLY !!! - to lower the minnoxi applications, untill eventaully you use none..
if you dont get bald or loosing a lot of hair again than you are ok id say, and can quit it totally..

anyway..
go on dutasteride / finasteride --- ASAP

as i said - i threw a lot of money on this ****,
and just now im starting on DUTS...
should have done that 5 years ago..

thats how we learn

I'm theorizing that the hairs you grow from finasteride are different from the ones you grow with minoxidil. There is a Theory that's been floating around that finasteride helps grow certain androgen related hairs. The minoxidil I think makes the vellus hairs fill in more and stick around longer. Just a thought.
Yea kinda what i think as well,
this way maybe you can cycle or stop completely minoxidil,
but i could only tell you for sure in about 2-3 years

That makes sense. That why dr recommends both minoxidil and finasteride.
