My dilemma

So here’s my dilemma.

I was on Finpecia for about 2.5 or so years, and it worked wonders. I stopped because I was having some minor side effects and the wife and I were going for a baby, so I figured I’d get off it for a while. It’s been about 2 years since I’ve used it, and without a doubt, my hair has taken a hit. I want to go back on, but am second guessing myself. The way I’m thinking is, I can’t possibly take this drug forever. It’s pretty powerful and I just don’t know that I’d want to depend on this drug for the rest of my life. That being the case, at some point, I’d stop. My concern is that if I stop 5 or 10 years down the line, within months, my hair would all fall off as that will be what my hair should look like at that point, assuming I’m able to maintain. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or share a similar train of thought? I wish that I KNEW that I could take it for 5 or so years and then there would be something way more advance 5 years from now that I could start taking that doesn’t have any sides or anything, but who knows? Any feedback? Any advice would be appreciated.

About me as far as my hair is concerned - I’m 29, I’m about a NW2, with a little bit of thinning as well, but not too bad. When I started on finasteride a while back, I was about a Norwood 1.5 or maybe even a Norwood 2 and my hair was starting to get a little thinner, so I went right on it, and it worked wonders.
