My 365th day...

Well, today is officially my 365th day on finasteride, 1/5th Proscar to be exact and I started Nizoral 6 months before that. Months 7-9 I saw the best results but have been mired in a monster shed for the past 2 months. I lose a shitload of hair every morning when I shower.

So, what is my analysis even after this shed? Well, my hair is still better than when I started and I thought for sure that my diffuse thinning would be blatantly obvious by now. I think I caught the hair loss just in time and I look forward to cruising through the next 6 years with pretty much the same amount of hair. Who knowsw, I may even progress over the next year. Regardless, I am EXTREMELY happy with what finasteride, nizoral, and this site have done for me. I have seen pics of my fathers' hair loss progression and from what I saw he pretty much lost it all within a 2 year period, I was definitely on the same path. I started spiking my hair and everything was going well and then bam, you could see right through the front of the hairline. Then, it got nasty. This went on for about 10 months and then I said screw it and got finasteride.

Best decision I could have made for my head was to get finasteride.

I like good news!!

Hopefully your shed is a sign that some big regrowth is on the way.

Good luck

thats great news, well done man, keep it up. well youre only on finasteride, so youve got lots more big guns for in case finasteride cant keep up with the hairloss. hopefully this will be a while down the line. think about it, if worse comes to worse, youve still got dutasteride, minoxidil 2% 5% 10% 15%...or whatever else is out by that time. well done.

how do you mean best results between months 7 and 9? could you provide a brief outline of your shedding and regrowth dates, if you had any? would really like to know as im in month 8 on finasteride...you can see my update post i just did in this section for details, id really appreciate it.

Baseline-26 yo with Diffuse thinning for around a year, started Nizoral and a laundry list of supplements in February 2003. Dropped all of the supplements and added finasteride to my nizoral regimen. Very low point in terms of mood and self-esteem. Shedding was ridiculous in July and August, which is what prompted me to get on finasteride. Started on August 10, 2003.

Months 1-3 Shedding was pretty consistent with what I was seeing before finasteride. Got watery semen in week 1 for about 2 days, and it went away. Probably fewer erections during the day, but I was getting entirely too many, whacked it or had sex 5-6 times a day, so I couldn't have cared less.

Months 4-6 Big time shedding, but my hair was somewhat long. Was certain that once I got it cut it would look horrible.

Months 7-9 Got my first haircut in like 10 months, hair was actually alot better than what I thought it would be with all the shedding in months 4-6. Shedding completely stopped for 5-6 weeks, like only 3 hairs in the shower per day.

Months 10-12 Hair was Niiiiiiiice, I could spike it up again with no probs and no scalp showing. Around the middle of month 10, I started shedding like a mofo. I can't really compare it to months 4-6 since my hair was much longer then and therefore got tangled more easily. What I can do is compare it to last summer, which is when the shedding was ridiculous. I don't know if there is actually a human cycle of shedding that occurs with the seasons, but I find it very odd that the shedding rate was the highest in 2003 and 2004 during the same months. I am probably looking too much into it.

Future- I have 2 months of finasteride left and I will be purchasing another 84 pack of Proscar. Looking forward to seeing how it goes and what my situation is like at year 2. Fact of the matter is, since the finasteride is so cheap and I am getting no side effects I would probably continue until the end of year 2 regardless of whether or not my hair was better since it is at least maintaining what i have, which is a head of hair that is unnoticably balding to 99% of the population. I fully admit that I am a superficial mofo. I don't really care what other people look like, but when it comes to myself, I am extremely critical, which is probably the same as everyone else here on this site. Heres to merck for allowing me to perpetuate this superficial-ness for maybe another 7 years. :)

You may want to take photos of your hair every month or every 3 months. Which is what I did when I start. Well start on the 3rd month. But yea, I had 3 shedding periods since the 15 months on Propecia. Nothing to bad like I heard from other people but it shed. The only thing I nervous about is the 2 year mark where I hear a lot of people loss there hair and I'm about there. Anyway, kind up with good work.
