All the posts and every person with insight has said that patience is the most important part of a male pattern baldness treatment. dutasteride is not tested and should only be used, in my opinion, by those who have have receeded to maybe a Norwood-3 or Norwood-4 and other treatments have not worked.
Even if you do get resukts in say 2-3 months, you have no idea if those results were because of the previous 6 months of finasteride use or the 2 months of dutasteride because hair grows in cycles.

I do not receed, I diffuse thin.

Why? I was considering jumping from Propecia to Avodart myself. Not because I think Propecia won't work, but just as an improvement in DHT suppression. Both drugs do basically the same thing, so I wouldn't think it'd matter?

I can see where it'd be stupid to give up on Propecia and switch to Saw Palmetto or something... but why is it bad to go to Avodart?

Hey Jeff,

I would try to get your self together; the more you think about it, and let it stress you out, the more hair you will lose, because of the increased stress. I would try to liberate your self from this, by shaving your head. I was in your shoes, I could not stop thinking about it. It started effecting my school work and just my overall being. So I shaved it off and I think about hair loss, rarely. It is a good thing to do while your shedding s****! Hope things get easier for you buddy, it sucks I know.

I've even considered doing this so that I can get piece of mind. Unfortunately, I work in an upscale restaurant, and doing so would probably get me fired. I do, however, have to keep short hair.

Switching to dutasteride is not advised for Jeff because: 1.) the side effects (both short and more over long term) have not been studied. In fact, dutasteride producers put there attempts for FDA approval on hold all of the sudden, this confirms the risk in my mind. 2.) His hairloss is not too bad and it appears that he is a perfect fit to use a drug that has been tested (finasteride) to be safe 3.) Changing now does not give ample time ( 1 year) to evaluate whether a less risky drug (finasteride) will be effective or not.
Jeff, the only people who would recognize your hairloss would be other balding guys or just vain ***'s who are useless human beings to begin with. You have to spend less time thinking about hairloss (less time on hairlosstalk.com to begin with) and a thin a shorter flat hair cut will help that. Just chill out in general. Think of how unfair you are being to yourself by getting so upset over something that you had no control over and mind you many other men are dealing with these same issues so you are not alone.

its not the switch we're critical of, its the lack of time jeffss spent on propecia. those who spend less than a year on a treatment are really not giving themselves the best chance for results. even worse, they may be doing more harm than good, shocking the sh!Telogen Effluvium out of their hair again and again.

jeff you must find a new hairstyle, one that will ease your mind about hairloss. i had the same hairstyle for like 8 years and once i started losing my hair it became more and more difficult to style it in the same way. it also made my hairloss alot more noticable. so i shaved my head (on #2) and since then i have just kept it a bit longer and messed up. it hides my hairloss a lot better and allows me to stop worrying so much about it. experiment and find a style that works for you. keep in mind that shaving your head can be pretty drastic, maybe try going a little shorter each time and see how it looks.

He needed a good hard slap of reality. And it worked - he agreed to stick out Propecia which I have every confidence will give him the results he wants.

I have changed my mind about using dutasteride immediatly.

I will be using propecia for the next several months at least and keep the dutasteride i ordered on the back burner..

that's what i'm doing.. shorter and shorter each time.. so people arnt shocked...

it's as close as you can cut it with scissors on top right now... and a #2 on the sides...

with my giant forehead i'm worried.. to go real short.. long hair offsets my huge dome..

thank you britannia. Your attitue almost seems professional towards hairloss.. I'm glad there are people like youon this forum.

I will stick to propeica for a while longer..

jeffs what your on at the moment seems a more than adequate approach. put the dutasteride in a cupboard and forget about adding new treatments completely. commit yourself to what your using now and give at the very least another 7-8 months. those who win at this hairloss thing are those who persevere. there are no quick fixes, not yet.

yeah i was the same at the start, bought so many different treatments without any real research. basically if it had a good sales pitch i was there. thats why i see all these snakeoils as such dirty business. its attacking men in an emotionally weak state, taking advantage of our insecurities.
