8 months ago I stopped applying regular minoxidil 5% (once daily) because it messed up my scalp head (very bad dryness, inflammation, flaking , soreness) and gave me a very severe itch. In the end, my hair started to look really unhealthy and I had actually lost MORE hair.
After I quit my scalp's health improved a lot. My hair looked healthier again, however after a month I did start to lose more hair.
So 3 months ago, after I read that PPG had most likely been the culprit, I decided to give minoxidil another chance. However, this time I used minoxidil with glycerin instead of PPG.
It works great! My hair has definitely thickened up. However, what's really amazing is that glycerine actually improves my scalp's health. Glycerin is very commonly used in skin creams because attracts water from the environment and from the lower layers of skin, increasing the amount of water in the surface layers of skin. Because of this, it negates the drying effect of the alcohol. Results: I have no more dandruff. No flakes or dryness at all.
I'm applying it in the morning and in the evening. My scalp feels great and my hair looks great!
