I've been using Min. USP 5% for over a month and noticed that comparing with before starting my hair is a LOT thinner on top of my head and frontal lobe area. Is this normal? part of the sheding process? should I stop? HELP!!!!

Keep at it. It is documented that an initial shed can happen on minoxidil, it says so on the labels of most minoxidil brands. If you don't see any improvement in a couple of months, then stop.

I would stop using it. minoxidil doesn't stop hair loss and is not supposed to make your hair thinner. Shedding and thinning are two different things. You need a DHT inhibitor.

Shedding and thinning are two different things? That sounds a bit iffy to me.

Op it does say on the bottle you may experience more hairloss in the first few weeks.

Well, then tell me how are they the same to you?

That's right because they are not.

When you shed a lot of hair it appears thinner---meaning less dense with some scalp showing through. That is a fact although it does not necessarily mean each individual strand is thinner in diameter. I'm not sure how you're misinterpreting what the other poster is saying.

I'm pretty sure you know how I "misinterpreted" the other poster otherwise you wouldn't of took the time to clarify "not losing diameter" but "shedding alot."

Anyway, does anyone have any pictures of a person progressing through the usage of minoxidil? The reason I ask is because I would like to see how bad the shed gets prior to the growth. This way those who go the minoxidil route have a good idea of what to expect. I believe in shedding but not the point of where your hair looks thin and destroyed.

Thinning and shedding being the same, is totally false. I don't even know why there's even a debate over this.

Everybody, even non hair loss sufferers, shed every day. The average person sheds from 50-100-200 hairs a day, every day. When you are suffering from THINNING hair, when you SHED you appear to have less hair, because the hair that shed grew back THINNER. But a person who is NOT suffering from THINNING hair, can shed and grow back strong thick hair, because they are not THINNING. Some people that suffer from male pattern baldness have the curse of increased shedding, and thinning hair at the same time, so they go bald quickly. Well MBP IS increased shedding and definitely thinning hair.

Shedding: Hairs falls out.
Thinning: Hair miniaturization.
A combo of both: You go bald.

Shedding while not suffering from thinning hair: You're good.
