minoxidil question

To you guys that use minoxidil, does it regrow or just keep what you have? Do you have to take propecia with it for best results or can you use it on it's own, and do you need to get checked out by your Doctor before you start using it? Basically, Is it worth using on its own for crown regrowth?

Thanks

Minoxidil will help keep what you have and possibly regrow new hair. You will likely get better results if used in combination with Propecia, but you don't need to use both. You do not need to check with a doctor, it is sold over-the-counter and is proven safe.

Thank you for your response. Are there people on here in their 40s using this foam with good results, and which one should I try first?

Thanks

Keep in mind that if you're not using propecia, DHT will still be attacking your follicles so the balding process is still continuing. This will prevent you from getting the most out of minoxidil and the benefit of using it will probably not last as long as if you were on both.

OK, But shouldn't minoxidil stop the balding? I thought that's the least it did if it doesn't regrow?

It will keep your hair in the growth phase longer, can thicken existing hair, and may provide a bit of regrowth so you may not notice your hair getting any worse for a while, but it doesn't "stop the balding". The process is still continuing so eventually the benefits seen with minoxidil will be overridden by your genetic inclination to be bald. Depending on the person this may not happen for several years or more but eventually your hair loss will progress.

Well I never knew that........ and I don't think most people do. Before Propecia was around, Regaine was the only deal and people thought it did what it said on the tin. Is Propecia OK for most people to take in their 40s? Would you recommend it or just try minoxidil to get some crown coverage back?

It's fine to take in your 40's. The active ingredient is also a prostate medication so I'll assume that the vast majority of them are over 40. I would highly recommend the use of both Propecia and Rogaine if you have alot of hair you'd like to try and get back. By reducing your DHT levels with Propecia, you are allowing the minoxidil to work better than if you used it by itself with DHT still "attacking" your follicles.
