minoxidil or finasteride making hair weaker.....

I have been on finasteride and minoxidil now for 3 months but my hair appears to be getting weaker at the front and no new sign of regrowth or new hairs coming through (i acknowledge its still very early), but how long do i peresist with the current results before one of them is making my hair weaker....is it the lipogaine minoxidil? - should i switch to foam for example?
I am starting RU as well so would it be a good idea to give up finasteride and see if ru can help - also using azelic acid cream?

Does anyone know of any history which could increase hairloss or damage it further?

Thank you for any help

Before I offer my personal ideas it's important, and in everyone's best interest, I would think to ascertain what your physician has advised. If you have not consulted with one please do this before changing or beginning new treatment. All the best.

Hi I.D walker, thank you for offering to help and i welcome the sensible advice. I have seen a dermatologist who took a blood test and went through everything and diagnosed me with alpociea. I am on a very strong regiame right now and am banking on something at least halting the hairloss or trying to find a combination that works.
I did some research and heard the stories about Azelic Acid and how the RU forumla has been proven to stop hair loss. For whatever reason 1.25 finasteride (proscar) doesnt seem to be having to much of an effect on me, i was on it for 9 months alog time ago and didnt have any rection to it, didn't seem to halt my hairloss, went to dutasteride but got terrible headaches and body pains and it scared the **** out of me so i stopped immediately. I think RU is my best hope, am 2/3 weeks in with no sides so i am hoping that will help. I am expecting my hairloss to get worse for the first few months due to the combination of everything, but if anything is making my hair worse - for example i might be better off with foam minoxidil compared to PG liquid......?
I am keeping a photo diary every month with hair wet so i can tell and just see what gives, but if none of these work then i am struggling. Not prepared to go on dutasteride but froma ll reports RU is meant to be very effective.

Adam stick finasteride. out for at least a year if you can tolerate it. It may only help you maintain, but that alone is extremely important. It may benefit for you to begin finasteride. at a lower dose to help minimize sides. If you are more comfortable with the foam version of minoxidil. I don't see that as a problem. A lot of members are trying RU. Some claim they are achieving encouraging results. At the moment I am a bit reluctant to suggest it. What dosage of dutasteride. were you taking? Good to hear that you'll be keeping a journal, I find discipline to be comforting and a great equalizer in a particularly precarious world. All the best and thanx again for sharing.

You are on the proven treatments. I would say stick with those for at least a year to see if there is any improvement. For many, just stopping the hair loss is considered success. But you need to wait it out. I know it is a struggle, I am on finasteride and minoxidil for 9 months and lately have been questioning the effectiveness of those treatments, but you really need to give them plenty of time to work. I have heard that it can take up to a full 2 years to see maximum results from finasteride. I plan on giving it at least a year and a half before making my final judgment.

Hi Everyone thanks for the advice and input as always, keeps you going during the depressing time. I will try and put some pictures up later to help.

I was on dutasteride every 2 days........but got terrible sides, very bad head pains, headaches and chest pains, whatever was happening my body was not agreeing with dutasteride and it just wasnt worth it, i dont have any sides with finasteride, maybe a slight less sex drive but not one which is worrying by any means.

I will stick on finasteride for 2 years and see what happens, i am on proscar (just cheaper), but i assume there really is know difference between that an propecia?
I dont get any sides with minoxidil, i just dont know right now if its harming or helping as we speak.....i thought from what i have heard that the cycle of the hair stops, so it looks as though its getting weaker, but this is to prove that the product is working so your growing new healthy hair?

I just might switch to foam because of the PG - maybe thats not helping (though Lipogaine is a very good minoxidil) and also the fact that in the morning it can be a pain and foam is so much easier.

Like you say even if i just stop my hairloss i will take that!!!! Any regrowth is a bonus - have a receding hairline, will post some pictures up later

As you can see, receding hairline, and temples are receding, need and want to put a stop to this asap, basically chucking every at my disposal right now.....i think i am going to switch from lipogaine to foam as i just think the liquid is weakening my hair.
I dont know if i am right, but foam i will go with for now.

I could have taken the pictures without my hair being wet, but you can always tell whats really going on if it is wet....

How old are you Adam? I do notice some slight temple recession, but it's possible you are merely losing your juvenile hairline. You are already doing the necessary protocol to combat M.P.B. and at the right time. If it's any consolation, your hair still looks amazing. Be patient with your treatment. All the best.

Im 26, I do have a bit of temple recession, pretty certain its standard hairloss, i just know that its going to get worse in the next few years and i just want to do something about it now before it gets to a strage where iw ish i could have done something about it.

Do you think in your opinion is there much difference in choosing which minoxidil to choose now, especially considering that azelic acid has been taken out of all minoxidil's which did work for alot of people.

Thank you for your advice by the way.
