Does anyone know if there is a dosage study on the effectiveness of minoxidil? By that I mean one on what is the ideal dose--did Upjohn pick 1ml as an easily measured figure, like Pfizer did when they used 1/2 cap for Foam in the trials (at least, that's my impression of what they did with picking the number for Foam...)
I was thinking about the dosage study that Merck had to submit when they applied for the original clearance on finasteride. It is an interesting study buried somewhere in the middle of the release info on the FDA website. The FDA reviewer actually raises an interesting question in the notes section on Finasteride strength in the dosage trials--apparently Merck submitted results for .2mg, .5mg, 1mg, and 5mg; the reveiwer wondered why there wasn't a capping study done between 1mg and 5mg to see if maybe something slightly over the 1mg would have been more effective, but less prone to side effects than 5mg. It left me with the impression that Merck had pretty much already decided on 1mg as the dose, maybe because they already had the molds or something for the pills, who knows.
I can't find a similar study for minoxidil and it has always struck me that DS Labs is a little over the top on their "10 sprays on the effected area" number; is this really the most effective dose of minoxidil, or is it the most....costly?
I personally can't use more than a few squirts without getting a headache. Go figure.
