minoxidil application and absorption

Alright guys I just have a quick question for you as I had a buddy who was on minoxidil/finasteride with good results with thickening all around and is having a slight problem now. He always wore his hair dry with no hairspray at all when he first got positive results from minoxidil then started styling it and using A LOT of hairspray and product. Ever since he has been shedding badly and losing ground fast. He is still on minoxidil religiously and finasteride and didn't change anything with his regimen, but do you think that due to the hairspray or product on the scalp that it is keeping the minoxidil from absorbing properly thus causing this big shed which is almost like a quitting minoxidil shed??? I'm wondering if he should rinse or shampoo his scalp before applications to make sure it is getting absorbed correctly. Do you think the hairspray or product on the scalp could be causing the problem???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It could be a coincidence, meaning just a shed like you might go through anyways, or it could be that the minoxidil isn´t absorbing like you´re saying. I think the silicone in a lot of products could cause this; even shampoos. Think I read somewhere that a silicone-free shampoo is the best thing to use for the best absorption...
