I have had long hair while applying minoxidil with no worries. If you wake an effort to get it on the scalp, and some gentle rubbing you souldn;t get it in the rest of the hair. I think it's best to get your hair styled to about how you want it, avaoiding products on the scalp which might interfere with tha absorbsion of the minoxidil. Then dropper the stuff onto your scalp, and leave it. I found that if I played with my hair I would spread it through my hair, which seemed like a waste of good minoxidil plus greasy hair.
I am growing out my hair now as I think I have stabilised with what I had before I shaved it.
