Minoxidil and bodily growth

Hi guys. I'm a 20 year old that has been experiencing somewhat recession of the temples and very noticeable thinning of the crown. As a college student it makes me feel like crap when i have to hide behind a beanie in order to avoid comments and near ridicule by classmates and even some family. As such, I've done a sizeable amount of research into the subject of hair loss and have been contemplating on which regimen to proceed with.

Now, I know that most people stop growing at my age (plates fused etc.), but apparently I am a late bloomer and have grown around an inch and a half in height since mid summer and still continue to. Seeing as how finasteride manipulates DHT/testorone and by extension the body's endocrine system, I thought it would be a wise decision to abstain from it until I was finished growing. After discussing this, my dermatologist recommended 5% minoxidil because I was "still so young" and I assume because my problem was primarily a lack of volume and less so missing areas of hair.

From what I understand, minoxidil maintains and bolsters existing hairs while finasteride tries to stop the problem at its source. In consideration of that it would seem reasonable to use the minoxidil through the formative time frame until adding finasteride, when my bodily growth will probably be over (>23-25).

Sorry for the long wall of text, but my question is just this: can minoxidil inhibit bodily growth (e.g. height) and or mess with the body's system of hormones?

im not an expert but I am fairly certain lowering your DHT via finasteride will not have an effect on bone growth that is reasonable. There are many things responsible for bone growth, DHT is not an essential piece, and even so finasteride will only lower your DHT by 70%, there is still enough for essential functions. Even then I doubt you have much more growing to do, other than maybe one inch if you are lucky. So even if your idea that DHT is very important to bone growth, we are talking about only losing a fraction of an inch of height provided your assumption is even correct.

20 years old is definitely old enough to start finasteride. You may want to minoxidil in combo with it or just finasteride depending on the amount of regrowth which will satisfy you
