Hi there,
I've just started with minoxidil and want to make sure I'm doing this right. My hair has been thinning gradually over the entire top of my head for the past year or so -- I'm young but have a family history of hair loss, on both sides and both sexes. The minoxidil box (generic Walgreens 5% liquid w/ dropper) says to apply 1 mL exclusively to the vertex area twice a day.
I'm hoping someone can explain to me how exactly minoxidil is absorbed. I understand that the actual mechanism of action is not totally clear, but what I want to understand is the following: is minoxidil effective only through DIRECT contact, or does it dissipate throughout the scalp once absorbed through the skin? My hair loss is not relegated to any particular area of my head -- rather, it's simply a decrease in density throughout the top of my head, from the hairline back to the vertex area. 1 mL doesn't seem like enough to evenly spread throughout the entire affected area. I imagine it might be possible if had a totally bald head to work with, but with a still full head of hair it's hard to strategically drop and spread around 1 mL without too much ending up on my fingers and the hair itself.
