Minoxidil 5%

I'm 18, turning 19 in July. Every single male in my entire family has gone bald, before or after 30, which scares me.

About 3 months ago, I started using Minoxidil on my receding hairline. Shedding has stopped, and I feel a lot of peach fuzz on my temples. I understand that with time it will thicken and grow into "regular" hair. But I have another concern.

My dad is bald on the front half of his head. Should I start applying rogain to the whole front of my head to prevent this balding? Or will me just putting it on my hairline be enough?

I'm also considering Finasteride, but at my age it sounds like it would do more harm then good.

Thanks.

If you had pics, that would be helpful.

I would start on finasteride and would not consider it to do more harm than good. I would immediately start on finasteride and putting it off more will just ensure that your hair loss worsens over time.

I would not apply minoxidil to any area that was not suffering male pattern baldness. I have issues around my hairline and I do tend to 'push' the minoxidil foam slightly beyond the point where the MPS occurs, maybe an inch, but I stick to the problem areas only.

Here is a picture. After looking at it from the top it doesn't seem as bad to me anymore, but I'm still a bit worried about how it will end up. Maybe I'll give finasteride a try.

And I think i'll stop using minoxidil on the 1 inch above my hairline, I just thought it might prevent it, but I probably wouldn't have to worry about that with finasteride.
