New to hair loss treatment,

I now have Nizorelle (1%), and plan to get Minoxidil to prevent more thinning, and hopefully thicken my hair a bit

- its only slightly thinned in the front 40% of the scalp

Ive seen it for sale online here in the UK in 2% and 5%.

which would you recommend?
have you used Minoxidil? How were the results?

Is Nizorelle 1% and Minoxidil a good combination treatment for slightly thinned hair?

thank you

If I were you, I wouldn't bet the farm (or my hair) that minoxidil is going to prevent more thinning! :) The best available medical evidence seems to indicate that minoxidil doesn't really interfere with the fundamental balding process, it just provides what you could call an artificial "offset of growth" (I wish I had a quid for every time I've said that). Once you get that extra bit of growth, though, balding/thinning will continue on its merry way, even with continued minoxidil use.

Using Nizorelle shampoo (Nizoral, actually), on the other hand, _may_ help stabilize your thinning more legitimately; a famous French study from a few years ago seemed to show that it can do that. I wish we had more research to back up that one study!

Both 2% and 5% versions of Rogaine/Regaine probably turn into the same thing after you apply them to your scalp: a saturated solution of minoxidil in propylene glycol. I would simply buy whichever version is cheaper per gram of minoxidil. It's almost always the case that the 5% version is cheaper by that definition.

thanks Bryan, maybe ill leave Minoxidil then

No, i take NizoRELLE, its half the price of NizoRAL and it has 1% ketoconazole

which is recommended on this site, instead of the 2% Nizoral

and i cant find a 1% Nizoral on the internet in the UK

Does anyone know?

Also instead of Minoxidil, what other drug/med would you recommend to prevent further hair thinning/receeding ?

i dont want to take finasteride / tablets

thanks

I _know_ you use Nizorelle, because you told me in your first post. I was just pointing out to you that the French study was with Nizoral (2% ketoconazole).

Oh, any of the other products you read a lot about on this site would probably be helpful. Topical spironolactone, the copper-peptide products like Tricomin and Folligen, etc. Dr. Proctor's products (prescription Proxiphen and over-the-counter Prox-N) would probably be best of all, but they're fairly expensive.

As theres so many products i dont know which is most effective at stopping hair thinning & regaining some thickness if possible?

as i live in the UK, topical spironolactone, Prox - N and folligen are not available here.

However i can get tricomin, but they have it in a spray, shampoo and conditioner

which type is best? spray/liquid, shampoo or conditioner?

what do you tyhink of Revivogen:

Not available, as in not available in stores? :)

I have no doubt that you can mail-order all those products.

You mean for Tricomin? I wouldn't waste money on the shampoo or conditioner. I'd go with the spray/liquid.

I've always been interested in Revivogen, as it has some interesting theoretical potential to help fight male pattern baldness. I wish someone would do some serious scientific studies with it, other than just that in vitro experiment they describe at that link.

Yeah, not available in stores or online
I probably could import but the postage and custom charges would make it more expensive

OK I think ill leave Revivogen if there's hardly any user feedback,

Besides the ones you've mentioned (top spironolactone, prox-n, folligen) ,
are there any other advisable liquids to stop thinning, and thicken my thinned hair?

thanks Bryan
