Can a mod sticky this topic? I just figure everyone who's thinking about trying minoxidil should know this side effect has a VERY high chance of happening. Maybe we can even discuss ways to counter the sides. Fore example, I've heard Retin-A (tretinoin) cream/gel can have a positive effect on skin/dark circles.

Foxbrim eye cream is what I use. It doesn't completely eliminate that dark circles, but it does mitigate them enough to where you don't look like a raccoon.

I also suffered from them before treatment, but that's just genetic. There's really only so much you can do. Some dummies offer up solutions like "get more sleep!" I just want to punch them in the face and say, "I could sleep for the next six months straight and my eyes would still have bags and dark circles." Even at 26 it's difficult to get rid of these things. Minoxidil hasn't made them much worse though I will say.

Anyone tried almond oil? Vitamin C is also supposed to help.

Pealing seems dangerous in such thin skin but there are people who use retin-a or thin needle rollers.

I don't know how exactly dark circles form nor do I care, but I have been diagnosed as having chronic insomnia.

Like a vitamin-c cream, or actual supplementation?

Think I'm going to try retin-a.

Also, I'm another person who's genetically prone to dark circles, buuuuuut I'm pretty sure the minoxidil is worsening them.

The freshly made tonic, retin-a under the eyes has to be the weakest % possible and you have to apply moisturizer, it also will look much worse before it gets good.

If you have a dark circles it's means that somehow has gone systemic, then dark circles it's the least thing you should be worried about

I believe people because I've been hearing this for years. I know when I used to use min, it damaged some skin on my forehead. Its a big change compared to the rest of the face which min didn't touch. Its also terrible for your scalp. It made it so itchy and when I scratched I had severe flaking and I'd walk around all day with a big white patch on my head. I'm so glad I stopped using this poison. My scalp is much healthier. Still losing hair but oh well.

Dude I completely agree. My hair loss was pretty minor when I noticed it. So to be safe I started applying rogaine to my temples and the small thin spot in my crown. Stuck with it for about 5 months then my scalp became a mess. Bumps, zits, tenderness, and flaking all came out of nowhere. And worst part is the spots I applied the rogaine thinned out drastically within the next few months. Regret ever using that ****.

I have not noticed any sides from generic Kirkland foam or Lipogaine liquid. I did suffer minor redness on the scalp back when I started nearly 2 years ago but that went away quickly.

So I tried using retin-a to treat my dark circles and ended up making everything worse. I've looked like a complete FREAK all week because of my ignorance. I used too much too soon and the skin ALL around both eyes is extremely red, dry, and irritated. I've been embarrassed to be out in public. I even skipped the gym after work yesterday because it's so bad. Sigh...

I can't even get retin A here in Ireland. Online stores probably would get stopped at customs. Both gp and a cosmetic clinic wouldn't prescribe it.

You need to moisturize the region, using retin-a on the eye bags isn't to be taken lightly, you need the lowest % and you need to wait until the skin recovers.

You're supposed to gradually build up retin a not lather it on at once plus it'll take months for improvement anyway. The skin under the eyes, sides of nose and lips are the most sensitive so use Vaseline here. It'll get better, its natural for your skin to burn and go red initially. It should peel and regenerate soon.

I've never noticed this side effect and I've been on it for half a year. I agree with minoxidil being terrible for your scalp though, I only apply in the evening and if I dont wash that stuff of in the morning it itches all day long.
