Medical Doctor or Dermatologist?

Who controls your regimen and who makes your prescriptions, a dermatologist or just a Medical Doctor?

I ordered Propecia online this time, but I will go to a doctor so he can control my regimen and make further prescriptions, not sure if I should choose a Dermatologist or just a Medical Doctor.

Dermatologist can probably help you more. After all, he/she does specialize in skin conditions.

I think that before you start self-medicating yourself, you should at least visit your dermatologist once before starting treatment.

I wish I could do that.

The problem is that the drug administration is asking me to show them the prescription when the Finasteride arrives at my country.

The only thing I can order online is Rogaine (minoxidil 5%), because it doesn't require any prescription.

i mean all that's going to happen is the derm is going to look at your hair.. then ask you a couple questions..

"have you noticed hair in the sink.. have you noticed hair in the shower"
"is there a family history of male pattern baldness"

then they collect their money for the visit and you leave with a trial sample and a perscripton.

so, you go to a medical doctor instead, to get your prescriptions?

Personally, before I start finasteride treatment I would want to go get bloodwork and a physical.

Then bloodwork every so often after treatment.

The ease of that probably depends on the nature of your health insurance.

If you have an HMO-type insurance plan, the Doctor will probably say "okay, son, let me see your scalp", immediately declare it to be male pattern baldness, write you a prescription for finasteride and send you on your way with a handshake and a pat on the ***. Get you in and out, asap.

If you have a pay as you go plan with choice of provider, the Doctor will probably give you the bloodwork, a skin biopsy, full physical, STD exam, allergy panel, prostate exam, and whatever else they can give and still have some credible reason to do so and bill your insurance company. If your scalp is irritated enough, they might even try to bilk an overnight stay out of your insurance, which could be a lot of fun. Lots of ice cream and Tang, the football game on tv, and no girlfriend around to give you sh*t about not taking out the trash.
