Maybe building muscle fast is not a good idea?

I read that tendons get strong much more slowly than muscle does. Does that mean that to avoid injury or further injury, we should increase the weight slower than the max speed our muscles can handle? This way the tendons are never the weak link, which can result in injuries.

I think being in shape is a lifestyle, not something you do super fast. Some guys can get away with quickly putting on 10 pounds of muscle though. I don't know how they do it. Genetics?

It depends on several factors:

genetics, metabolism, current and past body shape (muscle memory), how you eat and how much, and your work out program

Some of the guys over at bodybuilding.com can help you gain 10 pounds of muscle fast if you do what they do. Others take their time.

If you work out properly your tendons and joints will be fine, the problem is a lot of people are putting unneeded stress on joints or tendons and if you do too much at onceit will start to hurt them.
