i am 25, asian. i have had a bit of scanty hair as long as i can remember. i have had this problem with my partition line widening in the past. but it looks bad now and it has happened suddenly, it was not prevelant before and it looks bad now.

its just the side of my hair and a bit on the top (not crown or front hairline). i doubt if its male pattern baldness.

what do u think? yes i have been having a lot of stress recently

Hey Max,

A lot of people want to believe that what they are suffering from is not male pattern baldness, but normally it is... as for you i can not say for sure. I would recommend booking an appointment with a dermatolagist and looking through this website for information. There is an article on this website about Telogen Effluvium.

diffuse thinning is thinning all over the the head or crown. How long has this been going on for you? you said suddenly...how suddenly. A month a year?.
You may just be a diffuse thinner. My right side is much thinner then my left side as well. This is pretty common with male pattern baldness. The only person who can give you a definite answer is a dermatologist. Let us know how that turns out.

When I meet my derm tomorrow what kind of questions must i ask him?
What tests would he run on me? How would he find out if DHT/male pattern baldness is causing my problem ? Biopsy etc ? Pls let me know

There really aren't any tests that he can do. He should be able to tell from the info you give him and by examining your scalp. He'll ask you questions I'm sure.

I visited the derm today. He diagnosed it as Telogen Effluvium. He also found evidence of Dermatitis. Has given me a Zinc based shampoo. Will take some multi vitamins too...

Thanks

Max , click the word "Telogen Effluvium" .. its a link. Takes you to a whole article on the topic. Then click the word "Shedding" takes you to another whole article. It looks to me like you have diffuse thinning and need to go on Propecia and Nizoral at your earliest convenience. Then give just those two a good year and you should be doing quite well. Save rogaine for after a year when or if you don't see results on Propecia alone.
