Mature Hairline? Receding Temples With Fine Hair

Hey guys.

I've noticed that my hair has gotten thinner and stopped growing in my temples. I thought I was imagining the hair on the temples being finer at first, but then I found some old pics which showed that my hairline definetly has receded. I have been taking creatine for a little more than a year, which I have now laid off because of the increase in DHT that is seems to be causing. The temples have been receding just in the last 7-8 months, thereby longer than for how long that I've been taking creatine.

What do you think about my current progress? The hair is sparse and thin at the temples like 0,5 cm further out from the line that you can see in the third pic. Should I be looking into finding a clinic that can tell me something about the thickness of my hair? Are there any tools to measure if your hairline seems to be receding or maturing?

Does anyone know about whether decreasing levels of DHT (like by stopping creatine intake) might lead to regaining hair?

The first two pics are a year or two old, the second two are taken today.

Edit: Added more pictures. I seem to be balding at the crown too. Opinions?

Yes. A good derm will have them. Underline GOOD.

As for creatine: yes, many people have experienced hair loss after using it, BUT its effects on hair have not been studied scientifically that I know of.

Yeah a very good dermatologist.
Unfortunately, most dermatologists don't understand the basic of hair loss.

You have to show better pictures man. Can't even tell if you're losing hair in these pics.

What do you reckon when it comes to decreasing concentration of DHT by stopping using creatine? Could it have the same effect as a substance that seeks to inhibit DHT, like finasteride? Thereby, could I regain my hair from stopping using creatine?

Alright. So I'm not very likely to gain something from going to the doctor's. Might seek out a hair transplantation clinic and see if they have those tools and that knowledge for a consultation.

Gotcha.

Blue line on second pic is where I used to have hair a year ago

I honestly don't think you're losing hair. It is normal for your hairline to go back at the temples slightly and stop (mature hairline). I can't see any miniaturization from those pics. Your hair looks pretty damn good tbh. To play it safe you could go to a dermatologist that specializes in hair (preferably does hair transplants).
Also only one study has shown a correlation between DHT rise and creatine use. I doubt it would have a significant impact on your hair situation. Stopping creatine will not have even close to the same impact, if any impact, as taking finasteride.

Alright, thank you man. The miniaturization is hard to see but I can see some thinly spread (really fine, thin) hairs in the spot between where my hairline used to be and where it is now if I'm looking closely in the mirror.

The study (albeit just one) showed that there was a continuous increase in DHT by 40% - wouldn't lowering that value possibly make a difference?

Maybe you can see more clearly in this pic

Still having trouble seeing it, but you know your hair better than anyone. If you think you're starting to recede the safest bet is to get on finasteride. It is usually fairly effective at preventing further loss. Or you could just keep an eye on it and see if things get any worse. If they do then you could jump on finasteride.

And I have seen that study, but it was only a 3 week study, and was the only study of its kind. Personally I wouldn't take creatine, because it could possibly increase DHT, and I don't think it helps at all for lifting/muscular development. Stuff just makes me look/feel bloated. I know other people who live by the stuff though, so I suppose its different based on the person. I would still play it safe and stop taking creatine, but I doubt stopping creatine will do anything, and it most definitely is not going to grow any hair back you lost.

Also you should supplement beta-alanine if you aren't already. Stuff is so much better than creatine and is actually healthy. Beta-alanine increases carnosine levels by as much as like 80%, and it has anti-aging effects. Doubt it will help with hair loss though, but who knows.

I read something about some dude who went on finasteride and then lost more hair when he got off it - I think I'm going to chill for a bit. Perhaps take measurements of where the hairline starts above my highest wrinkle in my forehead. And yeah I actually liked creatine, made me look fuller and I felt like it helped my lifts too. But it's no biggie, I won't miss it much. I'll read up on beta-alanine, what's carnosine? Now that I've possibly have gotten some side effect from creatine that I didn't want I feel reluctant to hop on anything but whey protein and veggies

Other responses: thanks guys

Beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid. It greatly increases muscle carnosine, by up to 80% in some individuals. Carnosine is a potent antioxidant made up of amino acids, that is highly present in the muscles and brain. It helps prevent muscle fatigue during intensive exercise, and will help you get that extra rep or two. Carnosine has a lot of anti-aging effects and helps prevent dementia. Has cardiovascular benefits, helps prevent with elevated glucose, has anti-cancer properties, and anti-aging of brain properties. sh*t is the real deal. I am very into lifting and fitness so I have looked into a lot of this stuff since high school.
And if you take finasteride its a life-long commitment. I don't really think you need it yet. I would just keep an eye on your hair loss situation as you stated.

Also you may have had beta-alanine in pre-workouts. It gives you an itchy/tingling feeling on your skin. But that is completely harmless.

Op sorry to hijack thread lol but @dralex can you recommend a pre workout that gives you pump but DOESNT leave you with a tweaked out after effect?
I usually just use Amino Energy (can get it on amazon for pretty cheap). Mainly use it for the caffeine. I can't handle most pre-workouts, like C4, anymore, make me feel like sh*t after the workout.

Update: took some better pics, I'd love some opinions - am I balding at the crown too? Would you go on treatment?

If I saw you on the street, with hairline slicked up with a trendy haircut I wouldn't think you are losing your hair whatsoever and I am a veteran norwood spotter having spent years on this site. The fact of the matter is you had a female hairline norwood 0 and have receded into a perfect Norwood 1 which is perfection. Now there are slightly thinner hairs at the corners of the hairline. This could be miniaturisation left over from the rounded corners or it could be progression, only time will tell. This just happens to white men unfortunately for the vast majority of us. If I were you I would monitor it for another year. If you notice changes then you can decide to get on finasteride.

I don't think you are thinning at the crown and your hair is f*****g awesome so don't fret about it. Compare in 6 months.

Hey thanks man. I think I can see some progression with hair thinning further, but I feel reassured in waiting thanks to your post. I wish you the best
