So I was listening to the news and heard about this. Apparently scientists have enlisted the help of online gamers to help solve issues related to disease and other things.
Online 'gamers' were able to solve a problem with HIV in 3 weeks. Scientists had been working on for 13 years! http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/foldit-gamers-solve-riddle/
It's called fold it, and it is an online collaboration model that allows participants to test different protein structures and what not. I have to admit, it's a bit above my head, but I was hoping for some feedback from you guys on if this could be a viable option on seeking out a cure.
The about page on the website mentions more about this technology. http://fold.it/portal/info/about
I personally think it can help, but defining the project problems and methods will be the difficult part.
