male pattern baldness testing

Is there a test that can be done in the UK for this? I dont want to go to the doctors only to be told to go away and shave it all off! :shock:

there is no test that a doctor can do to determine whether you have male pattern baldness or n ot, as far as I know. If you are receding though then it's pretty obvious that it's male pattern baldness.

Surely a dermatologist can determine whether miniaturisation is occurring though?

Like me you will come to realize derms are just like us. My derm knew a lot less about propecia then I did. He basically just says my hair looks fine but until Ive lost 50 percent of my density he cant tell anything. Genetics is what you use to guess if you might get worse. Its basically your choice of what to do unless you have major Norwood no one knows.
