Hi guys,

This is my first post after i've been lingering around on here for a couple of days. Fantastic site and the advice / success stories have helped enormously.

Im 21, and i would say NWscale 1.5 - 2 but very obvious diffuse thinning (never forget the first time i looked at my crown in the mirror after it had been thinning) . I've been losing hair for about 3 years. I have only been taking 2% minoxidil for about a year and only once a day. The reason for the lack of a decent regime is i suppose is my ignorance - if i don't pay attention to it, its not a problem.

Now, obviously i'm getting sick of it and want to take control of the situation.

I have several questions that hopefully someone can help me with, i've tried searching but can't find the exact answers that im looking for.

Firstly, in the previous year, im confident that my hair has not thinned, and the crown has not receded. As minoxidil is not a DHT inhibitor I was wondering if male pattern baldness slows, or stops, or even reverses naturally????

Also, lately the hairs i shed in the shower are much much shorter than the hairs on the rest of my head. I have long hair (past my eyes) but recently the hairs that shed have been 1 - 3 inches long. What can I attribute this to??

Thanks in advance.

male pattern baldness does usually slow as we age, but you should be on Propecia. minoxidil is probably DOING noTHING for you.

if you're on your early twenties and experiencing male pattern baldness (like me), your male pattern baldness will almost certainly progress... minoxidil is just thickening your existing hair and getting a few other hairs coming out maybe but it is doing NOTHING to stop or slow your hair loss. go on finasteride or dutasteride immediately.

Like stated before, get on finasteride and nizoral shampoo. Add 5% minoxidil twice a day if you think you need it.

As far as the shorter hairs shedding, you could be experiencing more hairloss in an area, you need to identify if you are receding or if you are thinning quicker in certain places. Most commonly the top of the head and hairline. You could add minoxidil in those sensitive areas to thicken up.

the hairs are smaller because that is the "pattern" in male pattern baldness, they get progressively smaller and smaller (miniaturization) until they don't grow anymore

Ok, but these hairs are thicker than usual?? I was under the assumption that the hairs progressivly get smaller and thinner at the same time in male pattern baldness but these are some of the thicker hairs i have.
