Male Pattern Baldness - how to tell

I'm wondering if I am suffering from male pattern baldness. It was to my knowledge that the gene travels through your mother's traits. My mother's brother and father are both bald, and lost their hair at relatively younger ages. However, my Dad's side is the opposite. My father still has a ton of hair and is no way near being bald. Then there is me, who has been losing hair the past 12 months despite treatment. I figured that I had male pattern baldness because of my uncle and grandfather's baldness, however, most of my physical traits resemble my father, including my hair. Is it possible to have male pattern baldness but have the same hair type as someone without a history of male pattern baldness?

yes. you can get the gene from either side. you could have a whole family with no male pattern baldness and then randomly one of their children could have male pattern baldness from inheriting the gene from a great grandfather.

What's even weirder, is that sometimes you can get male pattern baldness without inheriting from your immediate family. Take me for example. No one in my immediate family (dad, my two grandfathers) has male pattern baldness.

So either I inherited the gene from my great great great great grandfather or some **** like that or it was entirely random.

sadly i had the fine blonde hair from my fathers side, his family are all blonde with hardly any hairloss until late 60's. on my mothers side, they all sported thick black hair until early 20's, where theyd fire off to a nw5 in 4-5 years. your parents hair colour or texture is no signpost for having hairloss genes or not.

I swear it seems like guys are losing hair at a much younger age than in the past. I don't remember any of my friends having any signs of hair loss when I was twenty, which was seventeen years ago, but nowadays I see plenty of young guys with hair loss.
