Experts, please advise:
Many diffuse thinners like me cut it very short on the sides and back and leave out slightly longer hair on the top. According to Dr. Pickart, the place which has longer hair will shed more to make-even with the place with shorter hair. Am I misinterpreting

Yes this is correct.

The hair on the sides (the shorter hair) will send a signal though the 'reductase feedback loop' to the longer hair, programming it to shed until the two areas have equal density.

Sometimes to save money on a haircut I will just get a small patch (around the size of a playing card) cut short and let nature do the rest.

male pattern baldness is caused by cutting a non balding area of hair too short, the other longer areas of scalp hear try and balance themselves out by shedding after receiving 'shedding signals' sent directly through the 'higher brain mechanism'

When a hair is cut short, an electrical pulse (similar in nature to a lazer beam) in transmitted from the tip (the freshly cut end) to the follicle, when it arrives at the follicle it tells the hairs 'brain' the approximate length of the new hair, this information is then encoded in the 'reductase feedback loop' and sent on to 'search' for scalp hair that is longer than the encoded data, when a longer hair is located the follicle is bombarded with 'negative hormonal pressure' until it dies and sheds, only when the hair has shed does a 'report' get sent back to the original hair to establish that the longer hair is dead and the shorter hair has in fact 'won'

This process is the basis for male pattern baldness.

techprof, if it had escaped your attention, the above posts I made were not entirely serious.

The piece you mention on his website is quite clearly credited to a (now dead) famous hairdresser and not Capn' Pickart.

thanks tynan for pointing it out. these days we read so much stuff so quick so that we miss out information that are not directly related. It is my bad that I misinterpreted it. Perhaps Dr. P should remove this from his site. If he doesn't believe this, why he has it in his web site?
