Hi all..
so today marks 1.5 months on finasteride+nizoral. Pretty short time, but since about 2 weeks ago my hair has been absolutely decimated. Shed started 2 weeks ago and is destroying my hair. I used to have 10-20 hairs when I showered, now, easily 70-100. If I roughly rub my hair, 50-60 hairs will fall out each time. Main loss is on the top of my head, which was always the thickest area.
I WAS NW2 temples, now I am NW2.5, as they have also receded substantially since finasteride. Worst part by far is the top of my head. It used to never be visible, now it is extremely thin. My entire head seems to have lost a significant amount of density and it is really scaring me... Hair in general feels much more frail and unhealthy.

My question to you guys is: Is this realistically my male pattern baldness speeding up? Should I jump on dutasteride?? Any advice is welcome

Pictures 1,2,3 are with flash, as you can see it is pretty miserable. Picture 4 without flash hair combed down. I don't have any pre-treatment photos, but know that my scalp was never visible. I am 20 y/o

Cheers

damn dude:( are you also taking minoxidil? i started finasteride again today BECAUSE of losing hair and you got this from finasteride doesn't make me feel better lol.

i personally would recommend adding minoxidil instead of another drug to mess with hormones, usually people have told me finasteride is king, and the big 3 (finasteride min nizoral) is the best approach.

I am on all 3, but this shed is horrible

I'm in the exact same situation. I started finasteride nearly 2 months ago and it has since completely decimated my hair.
I loose 50-100 hairs in the shower, and more throughout the day. And have noticed unusual hair shedding in the back/neck, sideburns, eyebrows etc. It's disheartening to think back in Dec/Jan when I visually had a full head of hair and now I have some goofy comb-over.

Maybe we just don't tolerate the hormonal change well? Or maybe our receptors are far too sensitive for even the Testosterone levels raised by finasteride?
I doubt at this point its just us responding well to the treatment. This is not normal.

Agreed, but I don't believe it is scientifically possible that finasteride can actually accelerate hair loss. I am a medical student and have studied the inhibition cascades and it is impossible that finasteride accelerates it, only thing it can do is have no effect, but it cannot speed it up. That is why I am considering jumping to dutasteride, maybe it is just my male pattern baldness going into hyperdrive.

Stop being scared of a shed after not even two months of finasteride.
You say you're a medical student, then you should know about the hair cycles. Hair in telogen phase can remain on your head during 3-4 months, any hair that falls before 3 months of treatment was dead before starting it.
