Just another bored update. How long now? 8 years on finasteride maybe 9? Still no sides. Still not using any other treatments. Reduced body hair possibly, but beginning to think its just aging, I'm well into my 30's now. I'm in the process of growing out a mullet because why the f*** not lol.

I spent maybe $2000 on Propecia before it went generic. Since then, about $120 a year for rx and doctor appointments, so roughly $3000 total to keep my hair these 8 years.

Used minoxidil for a couple years before I got lazy and stopped (and didn't lose anything). Take 1mg a day and I'm not too a*** about remembering. Lot of times I won't take it on weekends and make up for it with 3 tabs monday, nothing to report from that practice either, doesn't seem to matter much.

Started a new thread because old one had a terrible name I couldn't change :)

That thread links to old HairLossHelp forum thread dating back to 2013.

Good to see people having success with finasteride alone and not having to mess around with topicals. I just started finasteride 1 month ago at about the same age you did (I'm 25 right now). I decided to start with finasteride on its own as well. My plan is to switch to dutasteride and add topicals (just minoxidil and RU58841, everything else is snake oil imo) if it doesn't work as well as I hope it will.

Good luck and please give finasteride some time. I wasn't 100% sure it was working until I hadn't lost hair for about a year. So many people here jump around on treatments for years, and enough of them cause sides, or just don't work and people can't tell which treatment even did at some point, that they end up losing it all anyways.

Finasteride works for about 85-90% of guys, even in large studies done for 5, even 10 years. You don't see many success stories cuz those guys get off the forums. I have NW2 in my mid 30's so it looks like I'm not losing hair at all, no reason to come here anymore. I only do so people know that finasteride does work for a lot of us

Oh yeah, I wasn't planning on starting any other treatments until I'd been on finasteride for at least a year. Hopefully it will be all I ever need.

I appreciate it. I'm a thick norwood 2/2,5 at 20 and planning to take Finsateride very soon to maintain it. Right now nobody notices it and I can do pretty much every style. My father was like that too and only now at 51 starts to seriously bald but I want to take no chances. Your words are even more encouraging so thank you for that. If you wander in some forums you would think 60% of all people have serious side effects and I think that scares many people off until it's too late and they lost a lot of hair.

Good time to start! Don't wait too long, less than 50% of guys gain back ANY hair from finasteride, I didn't. Something like 30% get some back, 45% maintain, 10-15% poor guys keep losing hair (though I assume its probably at a slower rate than before, but no evidence on that) . If you wait until its noticeable you could be screwed. I waited about 6 months after I noticed hairline was going, and lost a good few centimeters of hairline. Less of a deal now with my age, nearly everybody is a bit receded, but in my mid/late 20's I had to watch my hairstyle to avoid looking older.

Yup that was even the case many years ago when I was was looking for info. Most people on forums are looking for support because primary treatments didn't work for them or they won't use them for whatever reason.
