lower doses of propecia

Does anyone know if there would be any downside, health-wise, if you took .25 mg everyday or EOD. Like would taking this amount or less make your hormone levels go on more of a rollercoaster ride throughout the day as opposed to a full dose where at least they would maybe stay at a stable level. So in at least this aspect 1 mg might be healthier than a lower dose--if there is even a difference. Is there a chance of something like this?

Or with the neurohormone thing where propecia supposedly decreases the amount of some stuff that wards of degenerative brain diseases and stuff, would taking a lower dose decrease the amount of neurohormones that are decreased themselves.

also I would be very willing to hear if anyone has any other information on propecia dose sizes.

thanks

Propecia has a flat dose response, this means that 0.25mg inhibits as much dht as 1mg, about 70% of serum dht. Its not untill you get down to about 0.05mg where this changes, at this dosage you inhibit about 50% of serum dht levels. I would just take it everyday opposed to every other day, i don't really see the point in this.

People say this but I'd have to argue differently. I took .5mg/day a year ago for 1 month. During this one month I had pretty bad sides...forget about trying to have sex. I recently (almost a month ago) started taking .25mg EOD. The first week I had sexual sides, but they were not nearly as bad as .5mg and over hte last month they have almost disappeared (I'm hoping with continued use they go away completely and I will up the dose to .25mg every day).

I definitely notice a diference in sides between .25mg and .5mg.

That said my hair loss is not extremely aggressive, and even on .25mg EOD i have noticed that i no longer lose much hair in the shower (if i do its maybe 5 instead of 25+) and my hair overall just feels better as far as texture.

I would also argue against this, but in the opposite sense. I took .5mg every day for about 3 years, with pretty good success. I upped the dose to 1.25mg a day about a year ago, and got MORE crown regrowth.

Everyone responds to finasteride a little bit differently.

When I was taking 1mg EOD I'd get a really oily and dry forehead, maybe it because I was talking it EOD and my hormones were fluctuating, in turn causing excess facial oil ..... :dunno:

I've been taking 0.5mg, daily, for about 2 months now and I haven't had any problems.

If you inhibit say 70% serum DHT how much follicular DHT then is there at the actual hair? Stopping the DHT at the hair itself is really the objective of stopping androgens right?

That is correct abcdegf. However, I remember Bryan stating that follicular DHT measurements are very hard to measure and different studies show different follicular dht measurements :dunno:
