I've posted on this multiple times and Im just at a loss here. Took finasteride for a year and 3 months. At one year mark, had a huge random shed, scalp became painful on spots, scalp got greasy fast ( but this could be due to winter), etc.. After the shed calmed down ( took a month and a half ) I started getting pimples along my hairline.. Been to a dermatologist that has said this is normal and claims that my scalp is healthy and I could have seb dermatitis.. Anyway, my hairline receded more and is itching and I have no idea if finasteride just doesn't work on me or if this is a shed that I'm going through.. I'm starting to have thinning and I NEVER HAD THINNING BEFORE.

Is this a finasteride shed??????????? I'm trying to ride it out but my hair is shedding so easily and I'm having itching along my hairline....

What brand finasteride were you on and how old are you? and when you say thinning is that at the hairline or all over?

The cold winter weather drys my scalp out and irritates it which makes me itch in spots. Don't think it's related to hair loss but I'm sure it doesn't help either.

Hey hmm, I used generics like dr reddys or whatever my pharmacy have me. I was quartering the 5mg dose. When this shed started, I bought real proscar because I was scared that the dr reddys caused this, but all the symptoms are there regardless of brand. I'm also 23 and my thinning is just on the left side of my head actually. My hairline was always lower and better on that side, but when this shed happened it literally thinned out to the point where I can see my scalp easily in a week.. I'm hoping that I stabilize soon because my Hairloss was so minor before finasteride and now it's ruining me. I'm scheduled to see dr feller for a reevaluation in 6 months to see if I can receive a transplant.

Have you tried nizoral shampoo for your scalp ?

yeah i have. did nothing. I use it once or twice a week just because it gives me a slight peace of mind. I use the 2% also. Its crazy how no body has experienced this type of shed before. I am 90% sure its some type of reflex related because i had a pretty oil scalp and increased sex drive when the shed happened. I just don't know if i should throw in the towel seeing as i am below baseline or if i should wait until two year to see if i will get regrowth while risking more loss. The thing that really upsets me is that my left hairline did not change at all from high school until i was 22.. once on propecia for a year it is just s***. is your hair supposed to thin before thickening on propecia?! i dred looking in the mirror after showering because my hair thinned so much.. it somehow miniaturized while on finasteride..

i really wish that someone could bring some type of relief to this!
